Since its release in February 2023, *Hogwarts Legacy* has become the most popular game for fans of Harry Potter and players who enjoy relaxing, immersive experiences. While other games offer a similar magic school setting, this open-world RPG has been hard to top. However, many believe the upcoming pixel art game *Witchbrook* could be the next big hit in the magic school genre. A key advantage of *Witchbrook* is that it features multiplayer, something *Hogwarts Legacy* doesn’t offer, and this could make it the next popular magical life simulation game. We recently got a promising look at the project, which has been in development for almost a decade, but it seems this highly anticipated cozy game will be delayed a bit longer.
Fans were thrilled when *Witchbrook* was announced as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, especially with a planned release in Winter 2025. However, I predicted a delay, as I mentioned after the game wasn’t shown at the September Nintendo Direct. Now, the developers, Chuckefish and Robotality, have confirmed that *Witchbrook* will no longer be released in 2025.
Latest Witchbrook Update Confirms Delay to 2026, Alongside New Look at Mossport
Chucklefish has finally announced when we can expect *Witchbrook*, and unfortunately, it won’t be this year. The team has decided to delay the game’s release until next year, which isn’t a huge surprise considering they hadn’t set a firm date yet. Plus, Chucklefish prioritizes a healthy work environment and avoids excessive overtime, so it was likely the game would need more time.
Despite some challenges, the latest update includes a promising look at the town of Mossport in the upcoming game. The interactive map on the game’s website gives players a good idea of how much there is to explore, including familiar locations from trailers and some brand new areas. It seems we’ll be spending a lot of time discovering Mossport beyond just the school grounds, and it’s shaping up to be a beautiful place.
This update not only shows off some of the important places in the game, but also explains that the delay has allowed the developers to consider some new possibilities. This includes releasing *Witchbrook* on more gaming systems and in additional languages. The game is already confirmed for PC, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, so the mention of ‘additional platforms’ likely means the popular PlayStation 5. While a mobile version is possible, PS5 seems like the most probable addition, as it’s the only major console currently missing from the game’s planned release.
Although fans will have to wait until 2026 to receive their acceptance letters to *Witchbrook* College, the developers at Chucklefish are being open about the game’s progress. They plan to share more updates on the magical school life simulator, including details about how players will be able to customize their characters.
Witchbrook is scheduled to launch in 2026 on PC, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will be able to enjoy both a single-player story and multiplayer with up to four friends. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, the game is currently planned for release sometime next year.
I’m super hyped for *Witchbrook*! If you are too, let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum – come join the discussion!
