Hilary Duff Reacts to Rumors Song “Mature” Is About Leonardo DiCaprio

Hilary Duff is coming clean. 

Ever since the release of her new song, “Mature,” people have been speculating about who inspired it. Many believe it’s about Leonardo DiCaprio, especially because of the line, “Very Leo of you with your Scorpio touch.” Singer Matthew Koma seemed to hint at this too, sharing a meme of DiCaprio with the album cover. But what does the singer herself think of all the rumors?

Oh my gosh, you guys, Hilary actually said she’s loving all the rumors! She was on ‘On Air With Ryan Seacrest’ on November 22nd and she was practically glowing talking about it! She said it’s ‘thrilling’ – like, 100% thrilling! And she’s totally obsessed with seeing all the fan videos and theories online, just like me! It’s amazing that she’s paying attention to everything we’re saying! I can’t even handle how cute she is!

Regarding whether the Great Gatsby actor is the “Leo” everyone is talking about, she explained that you shouldn’t believe anything Matthew posts. She described him as a major prankster who loves to playfully mislead people and enjoys the chaos that creates.

However, the 38-year-old remained evasive. “I’m not saying yes, and I’m not saying no,” she added.

Leonardo isn’t the only older partner people are discussing in relation to Hilary Duff. Joel Madden, who Hilary dated from 2004 to 2006 when she was 19 and he was 28, has also been mentioned as a possible example.

Hilary described her song as a conversation between her current and younger selves. It’s a reflective look back at a shared experience, filled with affection and gratitude for how things turned out. She sees it as a lighthearted and knowing acknowledgment of personal growth and resilience.

In the song, which was Hilary Duff’s first musical release in a decade, she sings about someone who reminds her of her younger self. The lyrics include, “She looks like she could be your daughter / Like me before I got smarter / When I was flattered to hear you say / You’re so mature for your age.”

No one officially confirmed if the new song is about Joel, but Nicole Richie, wife of Good Charlotte frontman, playfully acknowledged the rumors.

Nicole shared a photo on her Instagram Story from November 11th of herself and Hilary laughing together. She captioned it, “We’re definitely not mature, but this song is amazing!”

And soon enough, Joel himself reposted the pic to his own account. 

Hilary, who married Matthew in 2019, says her husband is a big reason she’s returning to music after a ten-year break.

She explained on the November 5th episode of the Therapuss podcast with Jake Shane that after ten years away from music, being married, and reaching the age of 38, she finally felt she could understand and complete her life’s story.

Matthew shared the announcement online, saying they’d created a little girl who would be just as lovely and kind as Hilary. It felt like the start of a beautiful new adventure for them both.

In the fall, the family grew with the arrival of their daughter, Banks Violet Bair. The actress announced the happy news online in October 2018, sharing that the new baby had “fully stolen our hearts” and was born at home on a Thursday afternoon, describing her as “absolute magic.”

Almost two years after they first appeared together in public, Koma proposed to the actress.

Duff and Koma said “I do” in Dec. 2019, surrounded by their loved ones! 

Matthew celebrated his first wedding anniversary with Hilary by sharing a sweet message on Instagram. He thanked her for everything she did during the pandemic, praising her strength and resilience with a heartfelt message.

Hilary and Matthew went on to welcome daughter Mae James Bair in March 2021.
