Hilary Duff’s Husband Slams Ashley Tisdale’s “Toxic” Mom Group Essay

Matthew Koma isn’t afraid to come clean with his thoughts.

Hilary Duff’s husband responded to an essay published by Ashley Tisdale in The Cut, where she criticized a past group of mom friends, calling the dynamic “toxic.” Many people believed Hilary, along with Mandy Moore and Meghan Trainor, were part of the group Ashley described, though Ashley’s representative has said that wasn’t the case.

On January 6th, Matthew shared a mock magazine cover on his Instagram Story. He jokingly announced a new interview with The Cut, referencing his three daughters with Hilary and her son Luca (from a previous relationship with Mike Comrie).

The post is titled, “When You’re The Most Self-Obsessed and Unaware Person on Earth, Other Moms Start Paying Attention to Their Kids Instead,” and is described as “A Dad’s Inside Look at a Mom Group.”

TopMob News has reached out to Ashley’s rep for comment but has not yet heard back.

In a January essay, Ashley—known for her role in The Suite Life and mother to Jupiter, 4, and Emerson, 16 months, with husband Christopher French—shared how she initially felt supported by a group of other moms. However, that support system changed as the children grew older and started having playdates together.

Ashley described feeling hurt after realizing she wasn’t invited to some gatherings with her friends. She found out about them through Instagram, which showed her pictures and stories from the events. Seeing those posts made her feel excluded and like she was being intentionally left out.

At first, she attempted to dismiss the situation, but she ultimately realized the exclusion seemed deliberate.

She remembered one night, after putting her daughter to bed, she started questioning if she was cool enough. It suddenly felt like being back in high school, confused and wondering what she’d done to be excluded.

Ashley left the group and texted everyone, explaining that the drama felt like high school and she didn’t want to be involved anymore. She hoped her daughters would stand up for themselves in the same way.

Even though some people in the group offered apologies that Ashley didn’t believe were sincere – claiming they hadn’t known she’d been left out – the High School Musical star remained committed to distancing herself from the group. She decided to talk about what happened, but why?

Ashley shared that being a mother is hard enough without worrying about whether you have support from those around you. She believes mothers deserve to be surrounded by people who genuinely care, and if you’re questioning that support, it’s a sign you need to find a different group of friends – even if they seem to have perfect lives online.

After the essay came out, people wondered if Hilary, Mandy, and Meghan had also been part of the group, since Ashley had previously hinted at spending time with other celebrity mothers.

However, Ashley’s representative quickly clarified the situation, telling TMZ that the rumors were false. They also explained it was disappointing that her essay – which aimed to highlight the challenges faced by young mothers – had been misinterpreted.

Although fans speculated about possible conflicts in Ashley’s writing, Hollywood has seen many real rivalries over the years—here are some examples.

In January 2024, Bobby (the second person from the left in the picture) spoke about rumors of a disagreement with Tan (in the middle). This came two months after Bobby announced he was leaving Queer Eye after being on the show for eight seasons.

He told Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay despite a personal issue. He emphasized that the situation was between the two of them, unrelated to their show, and wasn’t romantic in nature—it had been building for a while, but wasn’t about a relationship.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

We did a thorough search for the right actor, and my friend ultimately landed the role because they were the most talented. I want to be clear, though, that I didn’t help them get the part by having anyone else removed from consideration,” he explained on Instagram.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that actor Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” was the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a consistently impolite and unpleasant person.

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed upset during his 2014 appearance on The Talk because she had misspoken his name.

I remember him asking me, completely out of the blue, what I even was and what I’d accomplished in this business. Honestly, my immediate reaction was to warn him. I basically told him, ‘Look, don’t even try it with me, because I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ll completely run circles around you.’ I wanted to make it clear he had no idea who he was talking to, or what I was capable of.

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean. This followed a post Brittany shared on Instagram on August 23rd, where she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure had once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Candace Cameron Bure apologized, saying she regretted hurting JoJo’s feelings when she was eleven and was truly sorry for not taking the picture.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday films, she stated it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to the entire LGBTQ+ community.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without proper credit. Olivia responded with a simple, “Love you and I feel you so much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “You’re welcome, Olivia! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London—DM me if you’d like the details! I’m looking forward to getting your note.”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained the reason he and the Forrest Gump star didn’t get along while filming their 1989 movie, Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, as I had everything I needed with me, he said.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills likely remembers that famous line from Lauren, spoken at the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt, and it escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and Jason Wahler making a sex tape.

Okay, so it all started after Fast & Furious 9 got delayed – I was devastated, honestly, but then things got even crazier! Tyrese totally went off on Dwayne on Instagram, blaming him for the delay. And get this – the same day, they announced a spin-off movie with Dwayne and Jason Statham! Can you believe it?! Then, the next month, Tyrese actually said he’d quit Fast 9 if Dwayne was still involved. I was on the edge of my seat! It was a total mess, and I was following every single detail. Seriously, the drama was unreal!

Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on the The Red Pill podcast that they still haven’t spoken directly, though he expects they will. He mentioned he did speak with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations on behalf of others connected to the franchise, saying it was unprofessional and a mistake on his part. He took responsibility, stating he was the only one who spoke out when he should have kept those feelings private.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which supposedly began because of a disagreement over a dancer and competition during their concert tours, ended when Katy sent Taylor an actual olive branch as a peace offering before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared on Instagram that she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully avoided rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and subsequently made some pointed remarks about her co-star.

In a September 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan that they were just coworkers and not friends.

She said she was just devastated, explaining that they had talked about it all week. She was really bothered because her memory of what happened was completely different.

It’s definitely sad, but I believe what truly connected us was the unique experience we shared. It started as a professional project, but over the years, it became deeply personal. I’m hoping that the strong bond we built through years of working on something special will outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of something so meaningful and connect with people through it.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously told the audience that he disagreed with her being called the best live act, questioning how lip-syncing could be considered a live performance and suggesting performers who lip-sync should face serious consequences.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award consideration. She explained that she didn’t think the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine’s choice in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “When someone consistently demonstrates their true character, it’s important to believe them,” Shonda explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s been a valuable lesson for me.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week became a major headline. A month later, Cardi publicly explained what started the conflict with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. She explained that they’d talked about it twice before and seemed to reach an agreement, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had supposedly reacted to a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting, though Nicki claims she didn’t actually engage with it.

Honestly, I was set to make a huge amount of money from a tour with Bruno Mars, but I chose to stay home with my daughter instead. She’s my world, and I truly believe I’m a great mom. It really bothered me that someone without kids would criticize my choices. People keep saying that event wasn’t the right place to see another artist, but let’s be real – I don’t expect to run into someone like that just anywhere, like at the grocery store or walking down the street!

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They eventually reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for the action, and Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The supposed rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez has been talked about for over 15 years. It began during an interview where Mariah was asked about other singers. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, she famously stated, “I don’t know her.”
