The fresh start for DC’s cinematic and television universe is proving to be successful, with standout performances from shows like Creature Commandos and Superman, and even greater things on the horizon. An array of upcoming projects for both theaters and streaming platforms are set to release, featuring Lanterns, Peacemaker, Supergirl, Clayface, as well as works still in development such as Deathstroke and Bane film, the Waller TV series, and Brave and the Bold. As we approach the next phase of this universe, a popular DC series from the past is re-emerging on streaming platforms, joining an impressive lineup.
Currently, among HBO Max’s most popular TV shows (as per FlixPatrol), you can find season 1 of “Peacemaker” back in the top 10. With the upcoming release of “Peacemaker” season 2, the original season has been climbing up the ranks and currently holds the tenth position on HBO Max TV shows, though it briefly held the eighth spot earlier in the day.

In my humble opinion, the first season of “Peacemaker” finds itself in esteemed company among the current top television shows. Sharing the limelight are the likes of “Rick and Morty,” “The Gilded Age,” “And Just Like That…,” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” Also worthy of mention are less conventional picks such as “Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose,” “Rage (Furia),” “Black Widows: Wh*res & Hustlers,” “La voragine,” and “Bahar.” These diverse shows, each unique in their own right, are all worthy of your viewing time.
In terms of movies, it won’t be soon before “Superman” takes flight in box office rankings due to its recent theater premiere. However, there are still some significant films causing a stir. The number one spot is held by “Sinners,” and it’s followed by two cinematic interpretations of video games: “A Minecraft Movie” and “Until Dawn.” “Kandahar” and “Wicked” complete the top five, with “Wicked” expected to gain more popularity as we approach the release of “Wicked: For Good.
What to Expect from Peacemaker Season 2
Speaking of “Peacemaker”, the trailer hints at some captivating multi-dimensional themes, and if you’re expecting a continuation following Superman, then according to James Gunn, “Peacemaker” season 2 is just what you’ve been waiting for. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn mentioned that “Don’t forget about Peacemaker 2. Peacemaker 2 serves as a direct sequel to Superman. Many characters from Rick Flag, Hawkgirl, Maxwell Lord, and Guy Gardner are included, making it a direct follow-up to Superman, but with a definite R-rating.”
Although Peacemaker and his team successfully saved the world during season 1, they have not yet garnered the fame or admiration enjoyed by several renowned DC Universe superheroes, a fact which is causing discontent, particularly among Peacemaker himself.
In season 2, Peacemaker is well aware that he’s the one who saved the world from the Butterflies. He believes his fame should extend to becoming a true superhero. However, at the start of episode 1, we find him auditioning for a team of superheroes similar to Superman’s, but they ridicule him throughout the meeting, leaving him feeling unacknowledged.
In the upcoming season, Peacemaker might find out there are other universes beyond ours, and he’s dreamed of being a superhero. Would he give up our world and assume someone else’s life to fulfill that dream? This is exactly what the second season will explore, and we’re eagerly anticipating the creative directions that Gunn will take for the team this time!
Peacemaker season 2 will premiere on HBO Max on August 21st.
