Once again, “The King is Watching” returns with an update following its launch on July 21st. You can find it on Steam. This pixelated fantasy roguelite game blends city construction, area arrangement, and real-time strategy, evoking memories of classic Flash-made tower defense games from the 2000s. The latest 1.01 update brings a variety of bug fixes and enhancements for smoother gameplay. A notable addition is a speed-up function for players who prefer to boost their efficiency significantly.
In just four days following the game’s debut, the 1.01 Update brought a host of advantageous modifications for gamers.
Bug Fixes and Technical Improvements
- Fixed a crash occurring when using the Chinese input method (IME).
- Implemented a system to retroactively grant players achievements for previously completed challenges that had not triggered correctly.
- Resolved an issue where the “Lords of Graveyard” challenge would not complete properly.
- King Leonid’s initial quest now correctly grants militia, as indicated in the quest description, rather than peasants.
- Fixed an issue preventing hunters from applying the slow effect to bosses.
- Potentially fixed the Win32 function crash issue; please report if you continue to encounter it.
Quality-of-Life Improvements
- Players can now increase game speed during combat.
- When The Graveyard is now unlocked, it unlocks with up to Threat Level 3 available.
- Reduced crystal costs for upgrades:
- Troops’ Damage Levels 1, 2, and 3
- Troops’ HP Levels 1, 2, and 3
- Ascension crystals are now automatically collected when advancing to the next Threat Level.
- The Kings’ gaze areas are now displayed on the pre-run screen when hovering over a king.
- Troops’ HP and damage popups can now be viewed even when reward notifications are hidden.
In its debut on Steam, this dark fantasy real-time strategy (RTS) game with roguelike elements, titled “The King is Watching,” garnered a highly favorable “Very Positive” rating from critics. Players were captivated by the game’s straightforward yet hard-to-put-down mechanics. Additionally, developer Hypnohead has announced that more than 100,000 players have already engaged with “The King Is Watching“.
Get Wobbled on Steam found the game incredibly enjoyable and even harder to put down than expected. What’s more, the feature that grants ‘coins’ or ‘tokens’ following each play session to purchase permanent enhancements gives a sense of accomplishment with every round.
As an avid player, I couldn’t help but notice a recurring issue: the lengthy nature of runs in the game. This could pose a challenge because, unlike other games, this one doesn’t offer a save feature.
The user songOku on Steam commented that the game was enjoyable, yet a single session often lasts over an hour and unfortunately, at this time, there’s no option to save the game during play.

In the recent update of the game, they’ve added a speed-up feature which has helped alleviate some issues, but earlier they hinted at working on a save mechanism too, something I’m eagerly looking forward to!
In response to your requests, we’re excited to tell you that saving progress during a run is a priority for us, and we’re currently working hard on this feature,” said a post-release blog. “Just as during the demo, our dedicated team is carefully considering every comment, review, and message you send. Your input significantly impacts the game’s development, and your feedback drives us to continue building and enhancing it.
In the latest blog post about the 1.01 update, the developers mentioned their intention to introduce an in-game save function within the coming week, as well as addressing ongoing memory problems that some gamers are currently dealing with.
