These days, almost all big gaming companies offer subscription services – think Nintendo Online, PS Plus, and others. However, Xbox Game Pass is widely considered the most popular. Recently, Xbox fans faced a couple of setbacks: first, the price of Xbox consoles increased, and now, the cost of Game Pass has also gone up. But along with these updated prices, Xbox announced some new games coming to the service. For many subscribers, this includes access to the well-known game, Hogwarts Legacy.
On October 1st, Xbox announced updates to its Xbox Game Pass subscription plans. While the price of Game Pass Ultimate will be going up, all subscription levels are receiving some improvements. The Xbox Game Pass Premium tier, in particular, now boasts a larger game library, including several popular titles. Among these highly anticipated additions is the popular open-world adventure game, Hogwarts Legacy.
Xbox Game Pass Premium Library Now Includes Hogwarts Legacy And More
From October 1st, Xbox Game Pass Premium subscribers-and those with higher tiers-will be able to play Hogwarts Legacy with their subscription. This is one of several new games added to Premium, including Diablo IV and older titles like Minecraft and GTA 5. However, for a lot of players, Hogwarts Legacy is the most exciting addition in this update.
Even now, the 2023 open-world RPG is still extremely well-liked. Hogwarts Legacy allows players to experience the wizarding world firsthand by designing their own character and exploring their magical abilities. Although there was some debate surrounding parts of the story and its connection to J.K. Rowling, the game consistently has over 12,000 players online at the same time on Steam. That’s quite a feat considering it’s been two years since launch, and there haven’t been any significant content additions lately. Currently, those with an Xbox Game Pass Premium subscription can play this popular wizarding world RPG as part of their membership.
Perhaps the most unexpected part about quietly adding Hogwarts Legacy is that it’s available with the Premium subscription. Even though the top-tier Ultimate subscription is becoming more expensive, the price of Premium will stay the same. This subscription, which now includes Hogwarts Legacy , will continue to cost $14.99 per month, despite the new game being added. Unfortunately, players with the cheaper Xbox Game Pass Essential plan won’t get Hogwarts Legacy as part of their subscription.
In addition to adding Hogwarts Legacy and many other new games, Xbox Game Pass Premium subscribers will get free access to all new games published by Xbox when they are first released. Considering Xbox is releasing fewer games that are only available on their consoles, this is a great benefit for Game Pass members, making them feel like being part of the Xbox ecosystem still has advantages.
Okay, so the price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is definitely hitting our wallets a little hard, I won’t lie! But honestly, the fact that they’re adding Hogwarts Legacy and a bunch of other games *does* make the Premium tier look a lot better. I was actually considering downgrading from Ultimate with the $10 price jump, but knowing there’s a whole magical world of spells and secrets waiting for me in Premium is pretty tempting. It’s a bit of a mixed bag with today’s announcement from Xbox, for sure – some good, some not so good. But if you’re a Harry Potter fan and *already* have Xbox Game Pass Premium, then it’s a definite win, in my opinion!
