Hollyoaks and Brookside to crossover again as three legendary characters arrive in the village

Get ready for a blast from the past! Tim O’Leary, known as ‘Tinhead’ by fans, is returning to the Hollyoaks world – and it looks like he’s about to have a romantic connection with someone in the village!

He’s not the only new face in town. Nikki Shadwick, his sister-in-law, begins a friendship with Mercedes McQueen, and taxi driver Thomas ‘Sinbad’ Sweeney is also driving around Chester.

Tin, a mischievous character, first appeared on the Channel 4 soap opera in 1996 and moved to the neighborhood the next year. He remained on the show until it ended in November 2003.

Looking back at the show, it’s wild to remember everything my character went through! There was that terrifying accident that almost cost my on-screen sister, Melanie (played by Elizabeth Lovelady), her life. Then, believe it or not, I ended up forming a surprising connection with Sinbad’s character. But things really went downhill when I got involved with crime – a disastrous robbery ultimately led to the death of my wife, Emily (Jennifer Ellison). It was a lot!

Popular actor Philip Olivier returned to the screen, joining other former stars of Brookside for a special episode of Hollyoaks. He acted alongside Collins, who played Nikki and first appeared in the show in 1998.

This special episode, created as part of the 30th anniversary of ‘Oaks’, happened because both soaps were originally developed by Sir Phil Redmond.

At the end of the show, Tinhead flirted with Marie Fielding (Rita Simons), who was having a hard time after recently buying a house on the well-known Liverpool estate.

Actor Michael Starke is best known for playing the character Sinbad, a role he portrayed on and off between 1984 and 2000. He recently joined the show Hollyoaks in 2021 as a taxi driver named Benny, but no one ever explained the name change. Now, people have started calling him Sinbad again!

I’m so happy for Liberty Savage! After everything she’s been through – especially that complicated situation with Sienna’s dad, Jez – she’s finally found someone new she really likes. It’s so great to see her getting a fresh start with… well, with Tinhead! I’m really rooting for them!

It seems he has somewhat of an ulterior motive for being in Chester, but what is it?

In the upcoming 2026 storyline, new character Jenson, portrayed by Ryan Clayton (known from Waterloo Road and Coronation Street), shares a playful connection with Mercedes.

We then see him arguing with someone calling himself Tinhead, who appears to be pretending to be Warren. Meanwhile, Nikki begins to connect with Mercedes while visiting a rehab center.

Donny Clark, known to many as Mick Johnson from Brookside, is looking to leave town after a difficult breakup with Misbah Maalik over Christmas. Still dealing with the trauma of a sexual assault last year, he reaches out to an old friend, Sinbad, for assistance.

Collins expressed her excitement about Nikki befriending Mercedes, a well-known actress. She shared that she’s been a longtime fan of Jen and admires her talent.

The reaction to the recent team-up was amazing – everyone loved it! I can’t reveal any details, but I was thrilled to learn Nikki would be back, and I’ve been happily keeping the news to myself ever since.

Olivier said he was glad to be back at work. He mentioned that Tinhead is dating someone new, but also hinted that Tinhead has some unresolved issues he’s still dealing with.

Hollyoaks is available to watch on catch-up on Channel 4 and airs Monday to Wednesday on E4.
