It’s become predictable: Disney Parks raise prices every October. This timing coincides with the start of Disney’s new financial year, allowing them to potentially increase profits for the year ahead. While the latest price hikes mainly affected tickets to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, other costs also went up.
Prices for many items increased earlier this month, and while everyone will notice higher ticket costs, some things actually went up in price by a larger amount. It seems like Star Wars fans, in particular, experienced a significant impact.
Disney World And Disneyland Price Increases Hit Star Wars Fans Especially Hard
When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in 2019 at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it was a huge new attraction. It aimed to let Star Wars fans truly immerse themselves in the story, and a key part of that was the chance to create a custom lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. Building a lightsaber there is a fantastic experience, though it can be quite expensive.
When Galaxy’s Edge first opened, building a custom lightsaber cost $200. Over the past few years, prices for this and other experiences have gradually increased (though Disneyland saw a temporary price decrease). Now, Savi’s Workshop costs $250 at Disneyland and $275 at Walt Disney World, a $25 increase at both locations.
And there’s more! The price of Kyber Crystals – which determine a lightsaber’s color – has jumped from $17.99 to $24.99, a nearly 40% increase. While each custom lightsaber includes one free crystal in blue, red, green, or purple, you’ll need to purchase extra crystals if you want to change your saber’s color. Certain colors, like yellow and white, are only sold separately.
Disneyland And Disney World Increased Prices Across The Board
Prices have increased across the board at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World – it’s not just tickets that cost more. While most food items saw small price increases, generally under a dollar, merchandise costs have also risen slightly. For example, the iconic mouse ears at Disney World are a couple of dollars more expensive, and popular shoulder plush toys now cost three dollars extra.
The MagicBand+ wearable recently became more expensive. Disney World Annual Passholders and hotel guests used to receive a discount on it, but that discount is no longer available.
Visiting Disneyland or Disney World will likely continue to become more costly. While I believe these parks still offer a good value, it’s important for everyone to understand and be prepared for the actual cost of a trip.
