Horimiya Creator Returns With a Brand New Series (But There’s a Catch)

The creator of the beloved romantic comedy series “Horimiya,” which captivated audiences for a decade from 2011 to 2021 on GFantasy, is back with another manga four years after the conclusion of his successful series. “Horimiya” garnered a dedicated fanbase during its run. Before it ended in May 2021, an anime adaptation by CloverWorks was released in January of the same year, leaving fans eagerly anticipating for ten long years. However, the anime adaptation fell short of expectations, to put it mildly. Despite the animation, character design, and other elements being exceptional, the problem stemmed from the animation studio trying to adapt the entire story, encompassing 122 chapters, into just 13 episodes.

Two years down the line, in July 2023, the studio launched a spin-off titled “Horimiya: Piece”, filling in chapters left out from the original story. This 13-episode side story covered most gaps, but some moments were still missing. Despite an uneven pace, it wasn’t problematic given the episodic nature of the Horimiya manga. As both the anime and manga reach their ends, a new Boy’s Love manga, “Room Where Voices Fall”, has emerged in the 35th issue of Big Comic Spirits on Monday. Unfortunately, this manga is yet to be translated into English, with no confirmed release date for the U.S. version. For now, fans can enjoy the Japanese version on the official Big Comic Bros platform.

What Is the Plot of Room Where Voices Fall?

The narrative unfolds around Kagurazaka Itaru, a solitary illustrator employed by a corporation who resides in an apartment featuring a soundproof room. One day, his old high school companion, Fumiya Oji, contacts him via a friend request. Fumiya shares his troubles following harassment from a stalker. Compelled to help, Kagurazaka extends a temporary invitation for Fumiya to stay at his place until the danger subsides. Initially, their relationship is strained, but things improve when Kagurazaka discovers Fumiya’s calming voice during live streams aimed at women. As Kagurazaka grapples with work challenges and craves encouragement, he finds himself drawn to Fumiya’s words of support.

The main account from Big Comic Spirits Editorial Department’s official handle not only provides character introductions but also showcases pages from the opening chapter of the manga. Besides introducing the primary characters, this account presents Akiko Muto, Kagurazaka’s neighbor, and Emiro Shono, his superior, who frequently asks for unjustified favors. The manga is categorized as a weekly serial, implying it follows a regular schedule, with new episodes published every Monday.

Previously, HERO worked with artist Daisuke Hagiwara on multiple projects. But this time, a different artist, Tsutsuji Takahashi, will be handling the illustrations. Additionally, the publication company for this project has switched to Shogakukan, one of the largest publishers in Japan.
