Remember the rumors about a new co-op Horizon game being developed by Guerrilla Games? It’s now official: it’s called Horizon Hunters Gathering and will be available on both PS5 and PC, with players on both platforms able to play together and carry their progress across devices. While we don’t have a release date yet, the developers have shared a detailed look at the game’s story, setting, characters, and other features.
Instead of the realistic graphics of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Hunters Gathering uses animation and highlights powerful hunters from the game’s world. Players can join a team of up to three people to explore four unique areas, earning special abilities after defeating machines – and these abilities are different each time you play, similar to a rogue-lite game.
The game features two main modes: Machine Incursion, where you fight waves of Machines culminating in a boss battle, and Cauldron Descent, a longer mode with rooms that change each time you play – and some secret rooms to discover. Like previous games, you can aim for specific parts on enemy Machines with ranged weapons. This time, there’s also close-combat fighting, and players can choose between Tank, Damage, and Support roles before each run to help their team.
After each hunt, players return to Hunters Gathering, a central hub where they can connect with others and upgrade their equipment. If you’re eager to try Horizon Hunters Gathering before it officially releases, you can register for a closed playtest through the PlayStation Beta Program. The playtest starts later this month, so keep an eye out for more information.
