Horizon Hunters Gathering is “Fully Canon,” With a Story That Continues Post-Launch

Guerrilla Games has officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a co-op game set in the world of Horizon, for both PlayStation 5 and PC. The game, which features familiar characters like Aloy and Rost, is confirmed to be a fully integrated part of the Horizon story, and the developers plan to add even more story content after it releases.

The new playable characters each have their own unique backgrounds and challenges, and we’re excited to share their stories within the world of Horizon, the developer explained. The game will feature a main story campaign filled with new secrets, characters, and dangers, though details are being kept secret for now. However, they confirmed that Hunters Gathering is an official part of the game’s story and will continue beyond the initial release!

Considering how Horizon Forbidden West concluded, it’s natural to question what impact it will have when Horizon 3 arrives. This is the second multiplayer game in development for the Horizon series, alongside NCSoft’s Horizon Steel Frontiers. It’s clear Guerrilla Games is aiming to broaden the Horizon universe with different types of games, and it will be interesting to see how these new projects turn out.

When Horizon Hunters Gathering launches, players will explore four different areas – including forests and plains – and revisit Cauldrons to battle Machines. Unlike other Horizon games, you’ll play with two other players, each with their own special abilities and ways to play. Some characters are better at long-range attacks, while others excel in close combat, and each can take on a specific role to help the team succeed.

While a specific release date isn’t known yet, a limited playtest for Horizon Hunters Gathering will happen before the end of February, and players will be able to try out three different characters.
