Whenever someone talks about the fantastic open-world Horizon games made by Guerrilla, you always get some strange reactions from people online.
“It’s an industry plant,” they reductively regale. “It’s being milked,” they add.
The Horizon series is proving to be very successful! A recent Korean news report, published alongside the announcement of a new online multiplayer game based on the franchise, indicates that over 40 million copies of the games have been sold worldwide, despite there only being two main installments so far.
Earlier this year, during legal action against a company copying its work, the firm revealed the series had sold over 38 million copies. It appears they’ve sold several million more in just the last few months, pushing them past that mark.
This total covers everything related to the Horizon series, including the original two games, any updated versions, the PSVR2 game Horizon Call of the Mountain, and the LEGO Horizon Adventures game.
This easily establishes the game as one of the best-selling PlayStation exclusives of all time.
Consider Gran Turismo, which has sold over 100 million copies since it first launched with the original PlayStation. That’s an impressive number, especially when you realize the Forza Horizon series hasn’t even been around for ten years, yet it’s become incredibly popular.
Sony has even bigger plans for the franchise, including a live-action film and another multiplayer game being developed by Guerrilla.
Expect the series’ success to continue to grow.
