Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons Is Getting A Sequel (And It’s Returning To A Classic Location)

The Horrified game series has successfully featured monsters from classic Universal films, American folklore, and Greek myths. So, it was a natural step to include monsters and legends from Dungeons & Dragons. Now, a sequel is in the works, returning to the Dungeons & Dragons universe and set in a popular and well-loved location for fans.

Ravensburger is releasing a new version of their popular Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons game, this time set in the spooky world of Ravenloft. The gothic horror setting of Ravenloft is a great match for the Horrified gameplay, and players will team up to defeat one of four classic monsters, such as Strahd Von Zarovic and Carrionette. Good news for fans – Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft will be available at Target in July!

What Will Change in Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft?

Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons brought the excitement of a D&D campaign to the Horrified series by adding d20 dice rolls. The latest version, Horrified: Ravenloft, keeps the classic Horrified gameplay players love while introducing the spooky Ravenloft setting, new characters, and fresh monsters. Players will also face off against four powerful new bosses.

Okay, so the coolest part of this game for me is definitely the four new big bad bosses you’ll be facing. There’s Strahd Von Zarovich, this super powerful vampire lord, and Carrionette, who’s a creepy, killer doll. Then you’ve got Baba Lysaga, a powerful witch who actually lives in a walking hut – how cool is that?! And finally, the Gulthias Tree, which isn’t just a tree, it’s alive and… well, let’s just say it’s got a mind of its own. Each boss comes with its own awesome miniature figure, which you can check out in the picture above.

As a gamer, one of the things I really dig about games like Horrified and Dungeons & Dragons is how many different adventures you can have, constantly exploring new places and running into unexpected stuff. After the first Horrified: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game was such a hit last year, the Ravensburger team knew they wanted to make another one. It wasn’t a question of if they’d go back to the D&D universe, but where and what creepy monsters they’d face. They quickly landed on Ravenloft because it’s super connected to horror, has a really spooky vibe, and is full of haunted characters – perfect for a terrifying adventure!

Wizards of the Coast is constantly seeking ways to deepen players’ experiences in Dungeons & Dragons. Kara Kenna, Franchise Creative Director, noted that Ravenloft, a fan-favorite campaign setting since 1983, was a perfect fit for a collaboration with Ravensburger. Bringing the characters and stories from Ravenloft’s Domains of Dread into the cooperative, story-focused gameplay of Horrified felt like a natural step. This collaboration is especially timely as they launch the Season of Horror, celebrating the new Ravenloft release, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, which is available on June 16th.

According to Ravensburger’s Baldenhofer, the company strives to create engaging experiences that draw players into beloved stories. A key part of blending the worlds of Dungeons & Dragons and Horrified was incorporating the iconic d20 dice into the existing Horrified gameplay, ensuring a genuine and fun experience for fans of both games.

You can now pre-order Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft at Target. The game officially launches on July 19th.
