The streaming service is well-known for hit shows like *Reacher*, *Fallout*, and *The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power*. However, a recent historical drama is quickly gaining popularity with television audiences.
Prime Video’s *House of David* is quickly becoming a popular streaming series. According to FlixPatrol, the historical drama currently ranks as the 8th most-watched show in the United States, just days after its Season 2 premiere on October 5th. The show tells the story of David’s rise to become Israel’s most famous king, and how King Saul’s pride leads to his downfall. The story follows David, an unlikely teenager chosen by God, through the prophet Samuel, to become the new king.
The series was created by Jon Erwin and features Michael Iskander as David and Ali Suliman as King Saul. Other cast members include Oded Fehr, Indy Lewis, Ethan Kai, Tali Topol Margalith, and Davood Ghadami. Viewers have given it a strong 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics have awarded it a 71% score.
Viewers are praising the series, with one Rotten Tomatoes user, Leonie R., calling it “brilliant.” Another reviewer, Johann D., described *House of David* as “enthralling and epic.” While one critic noted some historical inaccuracies, they appreciated the show’s creative and poetic take on the story.
An Epic “Road Trip” Story
A review of Season 1 of *House of David* praised its grand and sweeping storytelling. The series, described as a “rags-to-riches road trip story,” is set in ancient Israel and features important biblical figures like King Saul and Samuel. According to the review, *House of David* delivers a powerful and dramatic experience, similar to Charlton Heston’s performance as Moses in *The Ten Commandments*. Season 1 contains eight episodes in total.
The upcoming season follows David as he deals with courtly intrigue, family rivalry, and a blossoming love life while embracing his fate and learning the qualities of a strong leader. A trailer reveals David grappling with the aftermath of his fight with Goliath and coming to terms with his destiny as a military leader. He’ll face challenges on his path to becoming king, and as he states in the trailer, a truly great king must be both just and kind.
House of David Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video. The next new episodes will premiere on Oct. 19.
