House of the Dragon season 3 release window finally confirmed after star teases “massive” new episodes

The next season of House of the Dragon is confirmed to arrive in about two years, suggesting the show will continue releasing new seasons on a roughly two-year schedule.

During a recent interview with Deadline, Casey Bloys, head of HBO and HBO Max content, announced that the third season of House of the Dragon is currently planned for release in early summer 2026.

Bloys indicated the new season will probably come out shortly after the May 2026 deadline for Emmy consideration, leading many to believe a June 2026 release is most probable.

If this is true, the third season will be released two years after the second, which originally aired from June 16th to August 4th, 2024.

Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, recently hinted that filming for the highly anticipated next season of the show will wrap up next month.

I was chatting with Gillian Cooke about her new series, ‘The Girlfriend,’ and she told me they had a pretty quick turnaround. They started filming in April and wrapped in October, and she said they’re already more than halfway through post-production – it sounds like a huge project!

When asked about how ambitious Season 3 is, she described it as ‘completely over the top.’ She explained that it involves a lot of large-scale, practical stunts and called the whole production ‘insane.’

The third season will feature the return of all the show’s original stars who survived the previous events, and will also introduce new cast member James Norton, known for his roles in Happy Valley, King & Conqueror, and House of Guinness.

Norton will portray Ormund Hightower, the nephew of Rhys Ifans’ character Otto Hightower. Ormund will lead an army towards King’s Landing to oppose Rhaenyra, played by Emma D’Arcy.

You can watch seasons 1 and 2 of House of the Dragon on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested in subscribing to Sky TV, here’s how.
