A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 may not have the same thunder when it returns next year.
Premiering in January 2026, the Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms offered a lighter, more character-focused story than the original series. Instead of grand battles and dark themes, it followed the adventures of a traveling knight and his assistant across Westeros. HBO has renewed the show for a second season, expected to air in 2027.
When the show comes back, viewers will see a new challenge for Ser Duncan – a heartbreaking love story. Actor Graham Claffey shared this information in an interview with The Playlist.
Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be quite different from the first, focusing on Duncan’s struggles with interacting with women – both romantically and professionally. He’s not very good at either!
The next season of the show will be based on the second story in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series, called The Sworn Sword. According to Claffey, it’s his favorite of the three stories. The other two are The Hedge Knight (which the first season covered) and The Mystery Knight.
The Sworn Sword is my favorite of the three novellas in the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms collection. It’s a really sad love story, and presents a unique challenge for Dunk. It’s where we first see him awkwardly trying to interact with women, both romantically and professionally – and he’s not very good at either!
Claffey enthusiastically welcomed the new actors joining the show for its second season, particularly Lucy Boynton and Babou Ceesay, who will be playing Lady Rohanne and Ser Bennis. He described everyone new to the cast as “amazing” and “incredible.”
Look, going into season two, things are going to feel different, but don’t worry, it’s not a step down. As a fan of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I was a little nervous – season one was phenomenal, boasting a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. I spoke with Claffey, and honestly, he confessed they didn’t think they could recapture that magic. But from what he’s told me, the team absolutely pulled it off. They’ve managed to maintain that same high quality we all loved, even while exploring a new direction.
Filming has been a blast, and everyone involved so far has been fantastic. I wasn’t sure we could match the quality of the first season, but the new cast members – including Lucy Boynton and Babou Ceesay – have been absolutely incredible. Everyone’s really bringing their A-game.
Claffey is incredibly impressed with his co-star, Dexter Sol Ansell (who plays Egg), particularly how poised and mature he is during interviews and events with large audiences. He noted a significant improvement in Dexter’s maturity between filming the first and second seasons.
During the filming of season two, Ansell performed a significant amount of stunt work and did an amazing job, according to Claffey. Claffey is currently on a break from filming and preparing to rehearse horse-riding scenes. He plans to visit Ansell and his family in between rehearsals.
It’s amazing to watch him perform in front of large crowds, especially considering his age. When I was nine, I was still just a kid! I was really impressed by how much more mature he’s become since we started season two – it’s been phenomenal. He’s handled some incredibly demanding scenes, particularly the stunts, and he’s absolutely nailed them. We’re currently on a break, and I’m excited to spend the weekend with him and his family in London, where I’ll also be starting some horse riding rehearsals on Monday.
The cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms features actors like Daniel Ings, Shaun Thomas, Tanzyn Crawford, Danny Webb, Henry Ashton, Daniel Monks, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Edward Ashley, Danny Collins, Ross Anderson, Bertie Carvel, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, and Youssef Kerkour. For the second season, a new group of actors will join the show, including Lucy Boynton, Peter Mullan, and Babou Ceesay.
HBO intends to release a new season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms each year, though a specific date hasn’t been set. Before that happens, however, they’ll air season 3 of the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, which is currently slated for a summer 2026 premiere.
