With the conclusion of Gen V Season 2, the show’s creators and cast are now discussing everything that happened. Showrunner Michele Fazekas went beyond just talking about the plot and characters, and also addressed the heartbreaking loss of actor Chance Perdomo, who played a main character, Andre Anderson.
Season 2 of Gen V directly addressed the death of actor Chance Perdomo by including a storyline where his character, Andre, also died. In the show, Andre sacrificed himself trying to help his friends escape from The Elmira Center, pushing his magnetic abilities too far. This death became a central focus of the season, deeply affecting the other characters and driving their desire for revenge against Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) and his plans. The show skillfully blurred the line between fiction and reality, making the grief and respect for Perdomo feel genuinely present onscreen.
Gen V Season 2 Would’ve Had A Higher Body Count
Fazekas shared in a recent interview that Chance Perdomo’s passing was completely unexpected, forcing the team to rework the plot for Season 2 of Gen V. This led to a significant and controversial shift in the show’s creative plans.
Fazekas explained that the recent changes to the show were partly due to the tragic death of Chance Perdomo, and it significantly impacted the season’s conclusion. A major decision was to avoid any further on-screen deaths. Having already lost Chance in real life, and having a character die within the show’s storyline as a result, Fazekas felt it would be insensitive to add more fictional deaths, as they seemed unimportant compared to the real-life tragedy.
Season 2 of Gen V could have featured a lot more deaths, but the showrunners worried about the impact those scenes would have on both viewers and the actors who would have to perform them. Eric Kripke, Michele Fazekas, and the creative team ultimately chose a different path. SPOILER ALERT: The season ended with the Godolkin University students joining forces with Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) to become part of a growing resistance.
Michele Fazekas explained that the initial plan for the season didn’t focus on the group becoming closer. But after the impact of Perdomo’s death, they decided to aim for a more positive and hopeful ending.
If not for that decision, things likely would have unfolded differently, and it heavily influenced all of our creative choices this season.
How Gen V Season 2 Sets Up The Boys Season 5
It’s interesting that the changes to the story and overall feel of Gen V have caused a lot of discussion among fans of The Boys. The show is really raising the bar for how connected shows and movies in the same universe should work together. The end of Gen V Season 2 has given the heroes a real chance to fight back against Homelander, providing them with the power and team they need. Because of this, and especially thanks to its finale tying directly into the main story, Gen V Season 2 feels more important to The Boys‘ upcoming final season than most similar shows from DC or Marvel. Other franchises could definitely learn from this approach.
With The Boys nearing its conclusion, Gen V has the potential to continue the story. Many viewers are starting to feel worn down by the negativity in The Boys, but Gen V Season 2 presented a more optimistic take while still maintaining the gritty tone of the overall universe. This positive shift was largely thanks to the contributions of the late actor Perdomo, and highlights the impact he had on the show.
Gen V Season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
