How Dolly Parton Really Reacted to Sister Freida Asking for Prayers

Turns out Dolly Parton isn’t fresh out of forgiveness.

The Grammy-winning artist wasn’t upset when her sister, Freida Parton, asked fans for prayers, which caused some people to worry about her health.

In an interview with News Channel 11 in Tennessee on January 3rd, Freida explained that her grandmother likely didn’t understand the internet at the time, which is why she didn’t face repercussions from her or other family members. However, Freida added that some people were still upset with her for what she had said.

Freida, one of Dolly Parton’s eleven siblings, recently addressed fans’ concerns by explaining that her family has always turned to prayer during difficult times.

She explained that she spoke about prayer because her mother had always taught them to pray. She prayed herself, hoping others would pray for her mother, who wasn’t feeling well.

She explained, “I didn’t intend for any of this to happen. I simply asked people to pray, because that’s how I was brought up.”

In October, Freida requested prayers for Dolly after Dolly had to cancel several performances in Las Vegas.

In a Facebook post on October 7th, Freida shared that a loved one hasn’t been doing well recently. She asked for prayers from everyone who cares about them, believing in the strength of collective prayer.

When I saw the news, I was really worried that Dolly was seriously sick! It was such a shock, but thankfully, she quickly set the record straight in a video and assured everyone, ‘I’m not dying!’ It was a huge relief to hear it straight from her.

She explained in an Instagram video posted on October 8th that she wanted to reassure everyone. She acknowledged and thanked those who expressed concern and offered prayers, saying she was a religious person and always welcomed support and prayers for any situation.

Dolly shared that after her husband, Carl Dean, passed away, she was able to focus on her own health and receive medical care. She described the treatments as “nothing major.”

The 79-year-old explained that they had to cancel some commitments to receive ongoing medical care near Vanderbilt University. They also wanted to assure everyone that they are not terminally ill.

Dolly ended her message by assuring everyone she had no plans to stop performing or leave this world just yet.

She said she still has purpose and plans to keep working hard. She expressed her gratitude for their concern and asked for continued prayers.
