How Jake Cannavale Really Feels About Bobby Cannavale’s Bearded Dragon

Jake Cannavale is letting the cat—or should we say lizard—out of the bag.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale – I’m obsessed with them, seriously – got a bearded dragon, and Bobby actually missed the Golden Globes to go pick him up! Can you even?! Now, Bobby’s son, Jake, has been sharing the cutest updates about how the little guy is adjusting to his ridiculously glamorous new life. It’s just… everything! I’m living for this whole situation.

At the premiere of his new show, Scarpetta, on March 3rd, Jake, 30, told TopMob News, “Benny and I are very close. Benny Blue is my bearded dragon, and I really love him.”

It was EVERYTHING seeing my dad just light up with Benny, and even more amazing to watch him connect with my brothers, Rocco and Rafael. They’re 10 and 8, and honestly, it was the sweetest thing ever. I mean, seeing that connection? Total perfection!

He chuckled, explaining that his dad never allowed pets when he was a child. But now that his dad is a parent again, everything’s different – he absolutely loves animals. He found the whole thing really funny.

Jake’s babysitting job has gotten a little more unusual. He used to only watch his younger brothers, but now he also has to feed Benny Blur his favorite treat: crickets!

He explained that you need to dust the crickets with calcium and vitamins before feeding them to a bearded dragon, ensuring the dragon gets the nutrients it needs. He learned this by watching his brother Benny’s dragon, as his dad took his brothers to Disney and he stayed home to look after it for a few days.

Okay, so Jake actually handled bugs – dead ones, thankfully! – and he said it was… “dope”? Seriously! But it gets better. He told me it was a “very cathartic experience” being with the reptile. Can you believe it? It just… clicked for him, apparently. I totally get it, though. Reptiles are amazing, and it sounds like this was a really healing moment for him. I’m so glad he shared that!

He doesn’t fully understand the situation, he said. It made me think how peaceful it must be to be a lizard in the desert, unaware of being confined.

Over the years, Jake has learned much more from his dad than just how to care for reptiles.

The actor from Third Watch has always given his son the same advice: to stay grounded, trust his gut, learn his material, and look for the funny side of things.

You know, people always ask me for some grand secret to success, and honestly? There isn’t one. I’ve learned through years of working with actors, it always comes down to the basics. You just have to do the work. It sounds simple, and it is, but that’s also why it’s achievable. Mastery comes from consistently focusing on and perfecting those fundamental skills – that’s what I always tell people.

Jake had the chance to watch his father expertly perform on the set of Scarpetta, which also featured Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. He even played a younger version of the character his father portrayed.

Jake described how he and Bobby worked together to develop their character. He said that as they explored the role and its complexities, they each arrived at similar interpretations, and he hopes those choices were effective.
