How Kelsey Grammer and His 8 Kids Are Preparing for Christmas

Kelsey Grammer is preparing for a smooth holiday season with his family. 

This year’s holiday season is particularly joyful for Kelsey and his wife, Kayte Walsh, who welcomed their fourth child—and Kelsey’s eighth—a baby boy named Christopher, in October.

“My sons are really excited about Christmas,” said the former Cheers star in a recent interview with Will Marfuggi of TopMob News. “They enjoy decorating the Christmas tree, and I put up the lights. We still keep a lot of traditional Christmas customs, and everyone believes in Santa Claus.”

Kayte and Kelsey recently welcomed a new baby, Christopher, joining their other children: Auden, 9, Kelsey, 11, and Faith, 13. Their family is growing, and the holiday spirit is strong!

The 70-year-old actor, whose new film Turbulence was released in theaters and for streaming on December 12th, said they’re excited to welcome Santa Claus, adding, “We’re looking forward to a great visit from the man in red. It’s very exciting.”

Although the family typically throws a large New Year’s Eve party, they’re keeping things low-key this year because they recently welcomed a new baby. Kelsey, who has five children – Jude, 21, and Mason, 24, with his ex-wife Camille Grammer, as well as Greer, 33, and Spencer, 42, from previous relationships – shared this with a smile.

The Frasier star is simply looking forward to relaxing with his children and enjoying their company.

He went on to say that opening gifts and decorating the tree are always enjoyable. The family always does it together, and the children especially love hanging the ornaments. With a new baby joining them this year, he believes the holiday will feel even more special.

He explained that they were initially embarrassed to ask, but eventually they worked up the courage and asked, ‘Are you really the one who plays Beast?’

 

Once Kelsey, who played the character in the X-Men movies, revealed his true identity, the response was simply, “Wow, that’s awesome!”

 

For Kelsey, “It was the first time I was cool,” he joked. “But that was pretty great.”

His youngest children are still beginning to understand their father’s impact on television history.

He explained that his children find it amusing when they spot tourist buses or map sellers while driving through Hollywood, pretending to recognize celebrities. They’ll point and say things like, ‘Look, there’s Kelsey Grammer!’ which confuses his kids, who ask what’s happening.

Although his younger children weren’t familiar with classic shows like Frasier and Cheers, they were completely amazed by Kelsey Grammer’s involvement with the Marvel Universe.

He explained that they were initially embarrassed to ask, but eventually they approached him and said, ‘Are you really the one who plays Beast?’

After Kelsey, who played the character in the X-Men movies, revealed his true identity, people simply said, “That’s awesome!”

For Kelsey, “It was the first time I was cool,” he joked. “But that was pretty great.”

Kelsey Grammer and dance instructor Doreen Alderman married in 1982 and had a daughter, Spencer Grammer, on October 9, 1983.

Oh, it breaks my heart knowing things started falling apart for Kelsey and Doreen pretty much right after Spencer came along! He’s even said himself he wasn’t the best dad at first, and honestly, it just makes me ache for everyone involved. It’s so sad they didn’t officially split until 1990, knowing they were already living separate lives.

In a May 2025 interview with People magazine, Kelsey admitted he hadn’t given enough attention to some of his children, particularly his oldest two. He said he’s working to improve those relationships now, emphasizing that a parent can always reconnect with their kids.

 

Spencer was married to James Hesketh, a firefighter, from 2011 until 2017. They have a son together, Emmett, who was born in October 2011.

Spencer, an actress and singer famous for her role in Greek and as the voice of Summer in Rick and Morty, achieved a long-held ambition in 2022 when she acted with Kelsey, playing his daughter in The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.

This was Spencer’s first time starring in a Christmas movie, and he said it was especially meaningful because he got to do it with his father. He’d always hoped to collaborate with him professionally.

Losing someone you’ve known for a long time is always tough, and this summer, I was deeply saddened by the passing of my former stepdad, Dr. Bill Skinner. He was a constant presence in my life since I was just five years old, and even though my mom and he eventually went their separate ways, he remained a significant part of my upbringing. It’s a reminder that family isn’t always about blood, but about the people who love and support you through life’s journey.

Spencer shared on Instagram that his father has always been a constant presence in his life, offering unwavering support. “He was there, no matter what I needed,” Spencer wrote, adding that his father consistently provided love, a listening ear, and belief in him, letting him always feel like a cherished child.

Kandace Greer Grammer was born Feb. 15, 1992, to Kelsey and makeup artist Barrie Buckner.

I remember when Kelsey Grammer and Leigh-Anne Csuhany got married – it was a bit of a surprise, but we were all happy for him! Sadly, it didn’t last; the marriage was annulled a couple of years later, in 1993, and it was actually Kelsey who asked for it to be ended.

Greer said in a 2015 interview with Glamour that she mostly had a normal childhood. However, she sometimes questioned whether people befriended her for who she was, or because of her father’s fame.

Greer, an actress who appeared on the 2024 revival of Frasier on Paramount+, seems to have followed a similar path as her father, who apologized for not being more present in her life in the past.

I was so young – only about four years old – when I first went to the tapings of Frasier. I knew my dad was at work, but I didn’t really understand what he did there, you know, that he was actually acting for television. It didn’t click until I was in second grade – that’s when it finally hit me what my dad did for a living!

Oh my gosh, I was reading this interview with Greer, and she talked about the best advice her dad ever gave her! It’s so sweet. She said he’s always giving her advice, but the biggest thing was just to make sure she’s acting because she genuinely loves it – to ‘act for the right reasons,’ he told her. And get this – they had this really deep conversation about how brutal Hollywood can be to women, and he told her not to let it get to her. She actually got choked up just talking about it, and honestly, so did I! It’s just… everything. He’s such a great dad and she’s so lucky to have his support. It just makes me love them both even more!

 

Kelsey married Camille Donatacci in 1997, and they had a daughter, Mason Grammer, on October 24, 2001, through a surrogate mother.

When Camille’s marriage ended in 2010, it became a major topic on the first season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where she was one of the original cast members.

Model and Emerson College graduate Mason shared in 2018 that her parents’ difficult divorce strained her relationship with Kelsey, but they’ve since worked through it and are close again.

She told Genlux that it was the most difficult period of her life, and it forced her to mature quickly. With her father largely absent and her mother struggling, she felt she had to take on a parental role for her younger brother. The situation created a lot of tension within the family, and her parents still aren’t speaking to each other, according to Page Six.

Camille, who married David Meyer in 2018, recently had kind words for her ex, telling Page Six that he was a great student. She joked that he likely inherited that trait from his father, as she doesn’t always possess that level of discipline herself.

Kelsey and Camille welcomed son Jude Grammer on Aug. 28, 2004, also via surrogate.

Kelsey’s youngest son, Jude, is more reserved than his older sisters. However, Camille revealed to Page Six in 2018 that he aspires to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an actor.

She explained that he’s currently not a fan of having his picture taken and actively avoids the camera. She considers it a real win whenever she manages to get a photo of him!

Just two weeks after his divorce from Camille became official, Kelsey married flight attendant Kayte Walsh on February 25, 2011.

Kelsey and Camille Grammer welcomed their daughter, Faith Evangeline Elisa Grammer, on July 13, 2012. They had initially announced they were expecting twins, but sadly, their son passed away shortly after birth.

Five years later, Kelsey opened Faith American Brewery in upstate New York.

My daughter is named Faith, and that name reflects her spirit – you have to be strong and fight for what you believe in. We really had to work hard to bring her into our lives, and she’s our first child. I feel the same way about America; it’s something worth defending.

Kelsey Gabriel Elias Grammer was born on July 22, 2014. His father shared that he and Kayte were excited to expand their family with two children.

Oh my gosh, you guys, it’s just so sweet! Apparently, the moment little Gabriel was born – he was only five weeks old! – Kelsey told People magazine that he and Kayte were already talking about having another baby! He said he couldn’t even imagine stopping now, because everything has been so incredible. It’s just…they were instantly hooked! Like, ‘Let’s do it again!’ It’s just the most adorable thing ever, especially considering he’s 25 years older than Kayte. They’re just meant to be, and meant to have a whole bunch of little ones, clearly!

Allen Kelsey Grammer, the actor, also mentioned that he and his family plan to continue a tradition of using their sons’ middle names as their primary names.

Kelsey described feeling incredibly fulfilled and joyful being around young people. She said it gave her a renewed sense of hope and that she’d never felt more alive or peaceful. Simply being immersed in life with them brought her great happiness, and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Kayte and Kelsey’s family grew again on Nov. 14, 2016, with the birth of son Auden James Grammer.

And the Frasier star’s older kids were all for it.

Greer shared with Entertainment Tonight, a couple of months before her brother James was born, that her dad had always dreamed of a large family. She said her parents, Kayte and her dad, are wonderful together and clearly adore their children, Faith and Gabe, who she described as ‘the cutest.’ She expressed her excitement for them to welcome another baby into their already lively family.

I’ve always admired how Kelsey has grown as a father. Mason once told Closer magazine that he truly becomes a better dad with each child. It’s so heartwarming to see! Mason shared that growing up, Kelsey was pretty strict, but now he’s much more laid-back with his younger siblings, and it’s just wonderful to witness – it really brings a smile to my face!

In an October 2025 appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast, Kelsey announced that he and Kayte had recently welcomed their fourth child, bringing their total number of children to eight.

The 70-year-old noted, “It was like three days ago, Christopher that’s just joined the family.”
