The live-action series has returned to Netflix for its second season, and the final episode is hinting at a major new storyline for Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hats, in Season 3. At the end of Season 1, Luffy and the Straw Hats began their journey into the Grand Line in pursuit of the One Piece, and Season 2 follows them as they explore the first islands of this dangerous, uncharted territory.
As Luffy and his crew journey through the early islands of the Grand Line, they attract the notice of Baroque Works, a dangerous criminal organization hinted at in the previous season. Now that the Straw Hats have arrived, they face numerous powerful opponents with unique Devil Fruit abilities. The season culminates in a major reveal, setting up the upcoming war for Alabasta and exposing the true identities of Mr. 0 and Miss All Sunday.
One Piece Season 2 Finale Introduces Sir Crocodile and Nico Robin
Throughout the One Piece: Into the Grand Line series, the true identity of Mr. 0, the leader of Baroque Works, was a secret. However, the final scene of the last episode reveals him to be Sir Crocodile (played by Joe Manganiello), a dangerous pirate. Fans also learn that the World Government has strangely cancelled the bounty on his head. Even after Baroque Works suffers many defeats in the second season, Crocodile remains calm and announces that his next plan is already underway.
The episode confirms that Nico Robin is the person known as “Miss All Sunday.” It also reveals she’s had a substantial 79 million Berry bounty on her head since childhood and prefers not to be called by her name. Meanwhile, Crocodile hints at plans involving Alabasta – which is experiencing a civil war that Vivi is working to resolve – as part of his quest for the One Piece. As all this unfolds, the Straw Hat crew sets sail for their next destination.
What Does This Mean for One Piece Season 3?
Netflix is currently making the third season of One Piece, and the show’s creator, Eiichiro Oda, has announced it will conclude the Alabasta storyline. The second season hinted at things to come in the Alabasta region, first by revealing Vivi’s secret identity as a runaway princess who infiltrated Baroque Works, and then by showcasing a major meeting between leaders of different nations, where Vivi’s father foreshadowed upcoming problems for his country.
The Alabasta arc in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga marks the Straw Hat crew’s first major challenge in the Grand Line. Facing Crocodile and Baroque Works, Luffy and his team encounter enemies far more powerful than anyone they’ve fought before. Their victory significantly raises their reputation throughout the seas. As the live-action series moves into its third season with this new storyline, fans have a lot to look forward to.
