How Powerful Wonder Man Is Compared To The Avengers

Marvel’s latest series, Wonder Man, introduces a potentially major hero. Directed by Andrew Guest and Destin Daniel Cretton, the show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an actor struggling with hard times. Unlike other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, Wonder Man focuses heavily on character development and steers clear of large-scale CGI battles, especially in its ending. Interestingly, the series intentionally doesn’t delve into Simon’s superpowers or provide a traditional origin story, leading to speculation that this version of Wonder Man might be a mutant.

We don’t fully understand how powerful Simon is until the end of Wonder Man. He demonstrates his incredible strength by completely destroying the show’s set, and Damage Control learns his abilities are linked to a unique energy source called “ionic energy.” Remarkably, he even breaks out of a high-security prison to save Trevor Slattery, blasting right through the ceiling. Given how little we’ve seen, it’s difficult to say how his powers stack up against those of the Avengers.

Wonder Man is Clearly an Avengers Level Superhuman

The comic Wonder Man doesn’t fully explain Simon’s powers, which seem to be based on a unique energy source. These powers first appeared when he was 13, causing a burst of energy and a fire that destroyed his house. Remarkably, he wasn’t hurt at all, not even from smoke. This suggests Simon has incredible stamina and doesn’t need oxygen to survive. He doesn’t react to being shot, and can break through walls without getting injured – making him even more durable than Captain America.

Wonder Man isn’t just more powerful than Captain America; he appears stronger than most of the original Avengers. Although Wonder Man doesn’t have many action sequences, one scene clearly shows Simon easily throwing around opponents with far more strength than any super-soldier in the MCU. This brief fight suggests he’s stronger than almost all the OG Avengers, surpassed only by Thor and the Hulk. However, Simon hasn’t had any formal training, which is a key distinction.

Flying isn’t common among characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we’ve seen it more often recently with the Multiverse Saga. Simon flies by creating a powerful burst of energy that pushes him upwards, strong enough to break through the roof of a high-security prison built for super-powered individuals. His flight seems as powerful as Iron Man’s, and might even be stronger.

Simon’s ultimate power seems to be creating incredibly strong blasts of kinetic energy, and he might be able to project other types of energy as well. Like Scarlet Witch, his powers seem connected to his emotions. We don’t fully understand how strong he is until he destroys the Wonder Man set, where the resulting explosion is comparable to those created by powerhouses like Thor or Captain Marvel, indicating Simon is on their level.

How Powerful is Wonder Man in the Comics?

Wonder Man is consistently ranked among Marvel’s strongest heroes. His powers, fueled by ionic energy, allow him to fly, teleport, and unleash incredibly powerful energy attacks. He’s physically comparable to powerhouses like Thor and the Red Hulk – he even defeated Red Hulk in a battle. A prime example of his capabilities came during a storyline in the Avengers comic series, when Wonder Man believed the Avengers were a danger to world peace. He launched a surprise attack, knocking out Thor and immediately demonstrating he could go toe-to-toe with the entire team.

It was shocking to see Wonder Man go rogue and form his own team, the Revengers! They came after the Avengers, and he was incredibly powerful – I mean, he literally threw Luke Cage miles away and really beat up Ms. Marvel. Iron Man did manage to trap him temporarily, figuring out a way to contain his energy form, but even that wasn’t enough. It was unsettling to find out Simon could teleport right out of the special cell Tony built to hold him! He was way more powerful than anyone realized.

It’s still unclear if the Simon Williams we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as strong as the Wonder Man from the comics. If he is, he’s incredibly powerful – potentially able to fight characters like Thor, the Sentry, or even hold his own against the Hulk. Hopefully, Marvel will approve a second season of Wonder Man so we can see more of what he’s capable of.
