How Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift Became BFFs After Jonas Brothers Splits

In a similar situation where both of them were dealing with breakups involving siblings, it was Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift who found comfort in each other. Their friendship began in 2008 when they were dating Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas respectively, and afterward, they turned to one another after their respective splits.

During an interview on the Therapuss podcast on August 6th, Selena mentioned that her time dating the Jonas Brothers members was adorable. She added, “Now we’re all familiar with each other and it’s so sweet. We didn’t really know what we were doing back then-Selena and I often joke that the best thing we gained from those relationships was each other. It was a very sweet phase in our lives. Selena was around 18, while I was about 15, and that’s when things got quite lively with curly-haired Taylor and her many bracelets.

As a devoted admirer, I’d put it this way: “Ever since our teenage days, bonded by heartbreak like only girls can be, we’ve weathered every high and low together for a remarkable 16 years. And here we are, still standing strong!

Selena also detailed an especially enchanted moment from the early days of their friendship.

She recalled that ‘Love Story’ was the first song she had heard from me, and at the time, it hadn’t been released yet. She was in a hotel room when she heard it, and the memory stands out clearly to her. It was one of those rare moments where she heard a song for the first time and immediately thought it was one of the most beautiful songs she had ever heard.

Selena described the moment as “very sweet,” saying, “She told me she wanted to play a new song for me, mentioning it might become the first single. Hearing her express such thoughts and then listening to the track-she’s simply amazing.

Over the years, Selena and Taylor have been close friends, always supporting each other during their most significant milestones.

To give an example, Taylor attended Selena’s recent rooftop birthday party when she turned 33. In a photo shared by Selena on her Instagram in July 2021 from the celebration, Taylor and Selena can be seen smiling together surrounded by silver and gold balloons. The post included Selena’s thoughts about the remarkable journey that led her to where she is now.

Taylor additionally ensured Selena received fitting tributes. As displayed in an Instagram Story posted by Selena’s fiancé Benny Blanco, Taylor indeed stepped up to the plate and bestowed her BFF with a homemade sourdough loaf, a Le Labo candle, along with bottles of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

In simpler and more conversational language: “The Midnights artist labeled the gift basket with ‘It’s a loaf (of bread) story,’ referring to an old song she once played for Selena. Another tag read, ‘Love, Taylor.’
