How T.J. Holmes & Amy Robach Went From GMA3 Cohosts to Engaged Couple

T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have reported some very exciting news.

The former hosts of *GMA3* announced they are engaged, nearly three years after they first revealed they were dating.

Amy, 52, announced on the October 14th episode of her podcast, *Amy & T.J.*, that she and T.J. are engaged. They’ve been engaged for about a month, she shared.

T.J. explained they wanted to share the news personally, referencing how photos of them showing affection in New York City had revealed their relationship back in 2022.

We wanted to share this news with you directly before it became public,” the 53-year-old explained. “We’ve realized from past experience that it’s best to communicate with you ourselves about our relationship.

When Amy and T.J. first became a couple, it caused quite a stir because they were both married at the time – Amy to Andrew Shue and T.J. to Marilee Fiebig. However, they later confirmed that they had already separated from their spouses when their relationship became public.

On their podcast in 2023, T.J. explained that people mistakenly believed they were being exposed for having affairs when they were simply revealed to be in a relationship. “We were outed as being in a relationship,” T.J. clarified, “but everyone thought we were being outed for cheating, which wasn’t true.”

Andrew and Marilee both went through divorces that were completed in 2023, and surprisingly, they started dating soon after.

Amy and T.J.’s relationship significantly impacted their careers. Both left ABC News in early 2023, and Amy said it was hard to leave *GMA3*. Although she didn’t feel pressured about their relationship—T.J. has an 11-year-old daughter, Sabine, with Marilee—she did feel stressed about how it affected their work.

In a 2024 podcast interview, she admitted she was stressed about losing career opportunities she felt she deserved, and expressed a strong desire to pursue her passions alongside her colleagues. That’s what was really weighing on her mind.

T.J. explained that he and Amy lost their jobs because they were in a relationship, stating simply, “We lost the jobs we loved because we loved each other.”

The couple’s affection for each other was clear during their dating period, particularly when they talked about their future and the possibility of marriage.

On their podcast, Amy explained that she and her partner have fully committed to each other, both emotionally and mentally. She shared that they’ve both expressed a desire to spend the rest of their lives together.

Amy, a mother to Ava, 22, and Annalise, 17, with her ex-husband Tim McIntosh, shared that she’s looking for a long-term partner. She said she enjoys the intimacy and companionship of spending the night and waking up with someone.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when Amy Robach joined ABC’s morning show back in 2012. She eventually became the host of what followed *Good Morning America*, after a really successful series called *Pandemic: What You Need to Know* evolved into *GMA3: What You Need to Know*. It was a natural progression, and she really stepped up to the plate!

T.J. Holmes joined ABC News in 2014 and quickly became close with Amy Robach. He was later chosen to co-host alongside her.

Robach told *People* magazine that she was the perfect person to ask about this, explaining they’d been hoping to collaborate for the past five years.

Describing his connection with Holmes, the actor explained they have a remarkable rapport, often finishing each other’s thoughts. He emphasized how wonderful it is to share that level of trust with a co-star, something that isn’t always present on set. He feels completely supported by Holmes, and knows Holmes feels the same way about him, which he considers invaluable.

Robach mentioned she and her husband, Andrew Shue, used to frequently go on double dates with Holmes and his wife, Marilee Fiebig.

George Stephanopoulos, Amy Robach, and T.J. Holmes all participated in the United New York City Half Marathon. Holmes later revealed on GMA3 that Robach had encouraged him to join her in the race.

Robach playfully told her coworker, who had finished just before her, that she clearly enjoyed the experience. She then jokingly added, “Let’s just say it: TJ won and I lost!”

Holmes modestly concurred.

“We were running together,” he said. “And I ended up a second ahead, officially.”

Holmes and Robach ran the New York City Marathon as a pair, but Shue didn’t participate this time.

Robach later shared that she and Shue were already separated, but she hadn’t announced it publicly yet. However, she wasn’t actively concealing the separation either.

I had been going through a divorce, and everyone close to me knew about it. I stopped wearing my wedding ring in early August, so it was pretty obvious something was happening. My co-host, T.J., is more private and preferred to keep it to himself, which is totally fine.

Let’s just say things got a little complicated for these news anchors! Pictures and videos surfaced in the *Daily Mail* showing them looking very cozy together on multiple occasions – a dinner in NYC, a weekend trip upstate, you name it. The tricky part? It appeared they were both still married at the time. It really became less about *reporting* the news, and more about *being* the news, which is never a comfortable position for anyone involved.

After news of their rumored relationship became public, the anchors of GMA3 both deleted their Instagram accounts. Shue also took down all pictures of Robach from his own Instagram profile.

When Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes came back to work on December 1st, sources said they appeared to be a couple, arriving together.

And the following day, the GMA3 hosts alluded to the drama that was percolating behind the scenes.

Holmes jokingly remarked on the show that he wished it wasn’t Friday. He explained he’d been having a wonderful week and wanted it to continue for much longer.

Their time together ultimately ended quickly when both individuals were temporarily removed from their roles while the company investigated their relationship.

Okay, so I totally get that all the talk about the anchor situation is a mess, and honestly, it’s taking away from the amazing reporting everyone at ABC News is doing. I saw the memo from Kim Godwin – she said they’re just switching things up on GMA3 for now, having different anchors fill in. It’s frustrating because I just want to focus on the *news*, you know? But it’s good she acknowledged it, I guess. I’m just obsessed with ABC News and want everything to be perfect for them!

Godwin added that he hopes we’ll keep concentrating on our strengths, and he expressed how incredibly proud he is of everyone’s dedication and professionalism.

Holmes filed for divorce from Fiebig after nearly 13 years of marriage.

Holmes and Robach were separated privately before going public with their relationship. He explained he didn’t immediately share the news because he was still working through the details of his separation with his family, including their 10-year-old daughter, Sabine.

My daughter is ten, and I was still helping her adjust to her parents’ separation,” Holmes shared on the first episode of the *Amy & T.J.* podcast.

Holmes shared that he hadn’t even had a chance to tell his mother about his breakup with Fiebig before news of his relationship with Robach became public.

He wondered why he was even considering sharing this with a company executive and the network. He admitted they were clearly mistaken in their thinking at the time, and looking back, they probably made a mistake.

Katie Holmes and her ex-husband, Bobby Fiebig, completed their divorce in October 2023, following criticism from Holmes regarding his public new relationship.

ABC News confirmed that Robach and Holmes had exited the company in a Jan. 27 statement.

Following discussions with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes regarding their future, ABC News and both individuals have decided to part ways. The network spokesperson stated they appreciate the years of dedication and work both contributed.

Before announcing their relationship, the couple was seen together multiple times during the holidays. Paparazzi spotted them at the Atlanta airport, where Holmes embraced Amy while they handled their luggage, and they later shared a passionate kiss in Miami on New Year’s Eve, seemingly confirming their romance.

Separated since the previous summer, Robach and Shue’s divorce was finalized.

Robach and her husband both remarried in February 2010. It was the second marriage for each of them; he’s known for his role on *Melrose Place*.

Ginger Robach was married to Tim McIntosh for twelve years, from 1996 to 2008, and they have two daughters together, Ava and Analise. Her partner, Pete Shue, has three sons – Nate, Aidan, and Wyatt – from his previous marriage to Jennifer Hageney. In 2021, Robach and Shue collaborated on a children’s book called *Better Together!*, which focuses on the joys of blended families.

After being linked for nearly a year, the couple finally confirmed their relationship on Instagram.

On October 23rd, Holmes shared photos of himself and Robach looking affectionate while at a University of Arkansas Razorbacks football game, which he attended as an alumnus.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was *obsessed* with seeing the pictures she posted! Amy Robach shared everything on Instagram – even a photo of the little signs they made to reserve their seats! It was SO cute and I’ve been screenshotting it all day, honestly.

“Hog for a night,” the University of Georgia alum captioned the post. “Dawg for life “#truelove.”

Ginger Zee and Rob Marciano stepped out as a couple for the first time on the red carpet at Jingle Ball 2023, embracing the festive season.

Okay, let me tell you about what I spotted at the concert! Amy Robach absolutely rocked a little black leather dress – super chic and definitely a statement. Ginger Zee, on the other hand, went with a classic, effortlessly cool black velvet tuxedo, ditching the tie. And honestly, these two were adorable! They weren’t afraid to show some affection for the cameras, and Amy even shared a cute video of Ginger playfully putting a stuffed animal on her chest – she was cracking up, and it was just a really sweet moment. They clearly had a blast!

The couple enjoyed a special date night just four days before their new podcast, *Amy & T.J.*, was set to launch on iHeartRadio.

Robach and Holmes publicly addressed the controversy surrounding their relationship for the first time, revealing personal details on the first episode of their new podcast, *Amy & T.J.*

Just to clarify, the public found out we were in a relationship, but everyone assumed we were having an affair – that we were cheating on our spouses. That wasn’t true, though. The strange thing is, both of us were already in the process of getting divorced when those photos were taken and the story came out.

The couple also shared how the scandal affected them personally. Amy Robach described rushing to Anderson Holmes’ apartment after he sent a text saying he didn’t want to get out of bed, a sentiment she understood all too well.

She wondered who still had her back, who still supported her, and if she’d work again. She also questioned whether people would believe the truth or the stories that had been spread. Dealing with those questions was incredibly difficult, but she felt fortunate to have the support of loved ones.

News broke on the same day that their ex-spouses started a new podcast: Shue and Fiebig are reportedly dating.

The couple has been seen together in public several times, including at the Z100 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball. They were joined by Amy’s daughter, Annalise, and T.J.’s daughter, Sabine, from their previous relationships with Tim McIntosh and Marilee Fiebig.

After months of speculation, the couple confirmed they were engaged.

Amy announced on their podcast, *Amy & T.J.*, that she and T.J. are engaged and have been for about a month.

T.J. joked they were announcing the news on their podcast so it could be on their terms.

He explained they wanted to share the news directly with everyone, learning from past experiences with how they handled similar situations. “We realized it’s important to tell you ourselves,” he said.
