To join the Brotherhood in Gothic 1 Remake, you’ll need to build a relationship with the Baals, a group found in the Swamp Camp. They worship the Sleeper, and starting their questline is the first step to becoming a member.
Most of the Baals will ignore you, but a few, like Baal Tondral, will interact with you, allowing you to start their quests and improve your standing with them. Here’s a guide to getting started!
How to Start New Souls For the Brotherhood Quest in Gothic 1 Remake
To start this quest, find and talk to Baal Tondral. He’s located where the red dot is shown on the map. If you’re coming from Swamp Camp, Lester at the entrance can point you towards Cor Kalom. From there, look for a staircase leading to the smithy.
From the smithy entrance, look across to find a bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left, and you’ll find Baal Tondral teaching students during the day.
Had you gone right on the bridge instead of left, you would have encountered Baal Cadar. To become part of the Brotherhood, you’ll also need to earn his trust.
Approach Baal Tondral and talk to him. Keep talking until he’s said everything he has to say, then accept his request to find a new member for his group. This will start the “New Souls for the Brotherhood” quest.
Where to Find a New Recruit for Baal Tondral in Gothic 1 Remake
Tondral says you need to go to the Old Camp, but first, talk to Melvin. He’s a student of Baal Tondral and you’ll find him sitting nearby. Melvin will tell you about his friend Dusty, who might be willing to help, and that Dusty is also at the Old Camp.
Dusty can be found in Old Camp listening to Baal Parvez speak during the day. Baal Parvez himself is generally near the southern gate, a short distance from the fire camp, where he’s usually talking to a small group of people.
Talk to Dusty and let him know about the good life Melvin is having at the Swamp Camp. Dusty wants to join you, but the guards won’t allow him to leave the Old Camp. To get him out, you’ll need to gather 100 Nuggets and use them to bribe the guard at the southern gate.
After collecting enough Nuggets, speak to Dusty again and let him know you’ve got the funds. Then, go with him to the southern gate and tell the guard this exact phrase:
- We’re just going for a walk. Here’s a hundred nuggets.
The hardest part of your journey starts now: you need to safely guide Dusty to the Swamp Camp. This will be tough because Dusty isn’t very strong and could be defeated easily. Be sure to save your progress frequently and equip your most powerful weapons.
If Dusty falls, he’ll automatically get back up after about a minute.
After arriving at Swamp Camp, bring Dusty to meet Baal Tondral and tell Baal Tondral that Dusty is a new member. Then, request a blessing from Baal Tondral as part of your initiation into the Brotherhood.
This will wrap up the side quest and progress the Admission to the Swamp Camp mission!
