How to Create a Last-Minute KPop Demon Hunters Halloween Costume

Okay, let’s be real – the Halloween costume requests can be stressful. I’m hearing from so many parents right now whose kids are absolutely fixated on being characters from KPop Demon Hunters – it’s the ‘it’ costume this year! And with Halloween just around the corner, it feels impossible to pull off a great celebration when you’re scrambling for something so specific. Trust me, you’re not alone, and we can definitely figure this out!

Don’t worry, this isn’t about getting rid of anything – it’s a chance to get creative and make things your own! We’ve asked lifestyle expert Veena Crownholm, known for her amazing DIY skills online and on TV, to show you how to do just that.

Making your own Halloween costumes is really enjoyable, especially because it means your child can have a unique look while trick-or-treating,” said a representative from QVC. “Even if they want to dress up as a popular character – like someone from KPop Demon Hunters – you can still make it happen. That’s the best part of doing it yourself!”

She created a unique, Rumi-inspired outfit by customizing a thrift store find: black leather shorts and a yellow jacket. She added patches, felt, puffy paint, and even electrical tape for a distinctive look.

Crownholm explained that the Rumi-inspired style is surprisingly easy to achieve. You’ll need some black shorts, ideally denim. If you want to add details, you can find electrical tape at a craft store. She personally paired her outfit with fishnet tights and a few rhinestones for a touch of sparkle.

She customized her black boots by adding silver and pink electrical tape, and encouraged everyone to “Have fun decorating with whatever you can find!”

No matter which character your child loves – whether it’s Rumi with her bright purple braid, the rapping Zoey and her space buns, or the clever Mira with pink hair – a good first step is to explore options near where you live.

Crownholm recommends starting by looking through your own clothes to see what you already have. Then, if you need more, try thrift stores and even The Dollar Store. After gathering everything, you can decide if you want to focus on recreating the ‘Golden’ style, or one of her other looks.

And if she’s sharing nothing but the truth now, you can even do a blend.

It won’t be a perfect replica,” she said, “but it will be a fantastic Halloween costume for your children.

The one must for any wannabe Rumi is her signature purple braid.

If you’re wondering how to create the Rumi braid, don’t be intimidated! It doesn’t actually involve any braiding at all. Instead, you use tiny rubber bands, folding them to create the braid effect – it’s much simpler than it looks. You can also add gold ribbon or small decorations for a little extra sparkle, and then just pin the braid into your hair. That’s all there is to it!

If you really want to stand out, you can get a candy container with a Derpy design.

Crownholm started with a simple $2 plastic pumpkin pail and transformed it using blue metallic paint and colorful paint pens. They then added rhinestones for extra sparkle, and used light-up toys, clay, and felt to create whiskers and ears, making the project a lot of fun.

Ultimately, she encouraged everyone to simply enjoy the process of gathering materials – using what they already have at home whenever possible – and then let their creativity flow.
