There’s nothing that gets *Pokemon Go* players more excited than the arrival of new Pokemon! The Halloween season is usually packed with these kinds of surprises, bringing new Pokemon and rare, Shiny versions to collect during special fall events. 2025 is continuing that trend. We already saw Poltchageist and Shiny Sinistea appear during the first part of the Halloween event. But before the full spooky season begins, the Harvest Festival event is here, bringing apples back into the game. And this year, those apples are introducing not one, but *two* new Pokemon to *Pokemon Go*.
The Pokemon Go Harvest Festival returns from October 10th at 10 AM to October 16th at 8 PM local time. This is the third year for the fall event, which began in 2023, and it’s particularly exciting this time around thanks to the arrival of Applin. This apple-shaped Pokemon has a unique evolution path, introducing a new gameplay element to Pokemon Go. When Applin was first released in April, only two of its three evolutions were available. Now, during the Harvest Festival, you can evolve Applin into Dipplin and ultimately into Hydrapple. Here’s how to do it.
When Did Dipplin & Hydrapple Debut in Pokemon Go (& Can They Be Shiny?)
Applin first appeared in *Pokémon Go* in April 2025 as part of the Sweet Discoveries event. Back then, players needed to find either Tart Apples or Sweet Apples to evolve Applin into its two different forms: Appletun and Flapple. Players have been eager to see more ways to evolve Applin, and as of October 2025, those options are now available.
Dipplin and Hydrapple were added to *Pokémon Go* on October 10th as part of the Harvest Festival event. While both Appletun and Flapple evolve directly from Applin, getting Hydrapple requires evolving Applin into Dipplin first. With Dipplin and Hydrapple now available, players can obtain all of Applin’s possible evolutions in the game.
Currently, you can’t find Shiny versions of Applin or its evolutions, Dipplin and Hydrapple, in *Pokemon Go*. While you can now evolve Applin all the way to Hydrapple, none of these Pokemon are available in their Shiny form just yet. Niantic will likely release the Shiny versions in a future *Pokemon Go* event.
How to Evolve Applin into Dipplin
To evolve Applin into Dipplin in *Pokémon Go*, you’ll need to find a special item called the Syrupy Apple. This item was first released on October 10th, 2025, during the Harvest Festival event. While it rarely appears on the map outside of events, it’s essential for evolving Applin. Keep an eye out for events like the Harvest Festival to get the Syrupy Apple and evolve your Applin!
Okay, so I’m trying to evolve my Applin into a Dipplin, and it’s a bit of a grind! You need a whopping 200 Applin Candy, which is way more than most Pokemon evolutions in *Pokemon Go*. That means a lot of clicking on apples to find enough Applin! And get this – it’s not just the candy. I also need to collect 20 Syrupy Apples! It’s a double requirement, which is kind of annoying, but I’m determined to get my Dipplin!
You’re more likely to find Syrupy Apples at PokeStops when a Mossy Lure is active. If you need Apples to evolve Applin, using a Mossy Lure will help attract them. Keep in mind that instead of an Apple, you might encounter a Pokemon!
How to Evolve Applin into Hydrapple
It’s easy to assume evolving Applin into Dipplin and then into Hydrapple in *Pokemon Go* would be straightforward, considering Dipplin’s complexity. However, this popular Applin evolution actually requires a special process, just like many others in *Pokemon Go*.
Okay, so getting Hydrapple takes a bit of work! First, you gotta evolve your Applin into a Dipplin, like I mentioned before. Then, you need to make Dipplin your buddy Pokémon and start grinding. It’ll cost 400 Applin Candy, but that’s not all. You also have a buddy task: you need to catch 7 Dragon-type Pokémon *while* Dipplin is your buddy. That’s easiest when there’s an event with more Dragon types showing up, like during a special spawn or a Raid. Sadly, there aren’t any Dragon-type events during the Harvest Festival, but at least I can get those candies I need while I work on that task!
After collecting 400 Applin Candies and completing the necessary Buddy Tasks, you’ll be able to evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple.
How to Evolve Applin into Appleton or Flapple
If you’re just learning about these Pokémon that came out in April 2025, here’s a guide on how to evolve Applin into Flapple or Appletun. Here’s what you need to collect to get both evolutions:
- For Flapple, collect 200 Applin Candies and 20 Tart Apples
- For Appleton, collect 200 Applin Candies and 20 Sweet Apples
Apples, including the new Syrupy Apples, will appear more frequently during events like the Harvest Festival. While you might occasionally find them anywhere on the map, they’re generally quite rare unless you’re using a Mossy Lure Module.
