Players often return to playing Pokemon Go when there’s a fresh Pokemon to catch. However, unlike before, not every new spawn shows up in the wild, making each new arrival somewhat of a surprise. As we approach the end of the current Pokemon Go season, another thrilling debut is on its way! This newly introduced Pokemon will be exclusive to Pokemon Go, and at the same time, its Shiny form will also make its appearance. What an exhilarating finale for the season!
The “Sun-Kissed Beaches” event in Pokemon Go introduces Dondozo into the game, and for the first time ever, Shiny Dondozo will also make its debut simultaneously. Originally appearing as the “False Dragon Titan” at Casseroya Lake in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, this colossal Pokemon will now be playable in Pokemon Go starting from August 25th. During the Sun-Kissed Shores event, from August 25th to August 31st, Dondozo will serve as a Raid Boss. Here’s what you need to know about catching both Dondozo and Shiny Dondozo during this event.
How to Catch Dondozo in Pokemon Go
During the Sunkissed Shores event, which lasted from August 25th to August 31st, Dondozo made its first appearance. At this time, you could encounter Dondozo as a raid boss in three-star battles. If you want to capture your very own Dondozo, look for a Pokemon Gym that’s hosting a Dondozo raid during the event and engage in battle. Defeat it to have a chance at catching one! Keep in mind that Dondozo may still appear in three-star Raids after the event ends; however, participating while it’s appearing more often will give you the best opportunity to catch one.
At the Sunkissed Shores festival, trainers can choose to participate in Time-Limited Paid Research for a fee of $1.99 USD. By opting in, they’ll receive extra research encounters featuring Dondozo as a reward. Important note: this special ticket is only available during the event. After the festival concludes, catching Dondozo can be achieved by participating in Raid Battles, making it the sole method for capturing this Pokemon until the next similar event occurs.
Since Dondozo is mainly found during Raid battles, it’s important to be prepared to defeat it if you aim to catch it. To increase your chances, make sure you have the appropriate counters with you. Given that Dondozo is a Water-type Raid Boss, having strong Electric or Grass Pokémon on your team would be beneficial. Some ideal choices for counters could include:
1. Raikou (Electric-type)
2. Zapdos (Electric-type)
3. Electivire (Electric-type)
4. Leafeon (Grass-type)
5. Roserade (Grass/Poison-type)
- Sceptile
- Raikou
- Electivire
- Thundurus
When selecting your team, ensure they primarily use Grass-type or Electric-type moves for optimal effectiveness. Moreover, don’t forget that Shadow Pokemon and Mega Evolutions can be powerful assets during Raid Battles, so consider including them in your lineup if available.
Can You Solo Dondozo Raids?
In simpler terms, handling a 3-star Raid by yourself can be challenging due to its robust defenses, but with a powerful team of pokemon, you might still succeed. However, for the best odds in defeating Dondozo, it’s recommended to team up with at least two or three trainers.
To boost your odds of successfully taking down Dondozo alone in a raid battle, it’s advisable to level up your strongest Grass and Electric type Pokémon. You can do this by using Candy on them. With higher-level and well-matched Pokémon, you stand a better chance of defeating Dondozo without the help of other trainers.
Can Dondozo Be Shiny?
Absolutely! In the world of Pokémon Go, it’s me who might appear as the Shiny version of Dondozo. These rare creatures are among the latest additions that come Shiny from the get-go. So, gear up for some intense 3-star Raid battles during its debut event. You never know, you might just catch a Shiny Dondozo!
I’m sorry to say, but the odds of finding a Shiny Dondozo aren’t increased during the event. This means you’ll probably have to battle it numerous times to up your chances of encountering a Shiny Dondozo.
