How to Get to Heaven from Belfast ending explained: What actually happened to Greta?

Wow, can you believe it? After the first episode, it turns out Greta isn’t gone after all! It was such a shock to learn she’s actually alive, but it really makes you wonder… why did everyone think she was dead and hold a wake for her in the first place? It’s a total mystery!
The woman in the coffin was actually Greta’s childhood friend, Jodie, who died after falling down the stairs while confronting Greta. Overwhelmed and having accidentally killed Jodie, Margo (Michelle Fairley) helped Greta fake her own death, claiming Greta had run away. However, they didn’t anticipate Saoirse looking inside the coffin and discovering it wasn’t Greta after all.
The Evaporation Society is a group dedicated to helping women escape difficult circumstances, and both Feeney and Booker are members. Although Booker appears to be working against Greta throughout the series, she’s secretly trying to help her get to safety.
According to series creator Lisa McGee, the character of Feeney belongs to a group called The Evaporation Society. This organization helps women escape difficult or dangerous situations, and Feeney herself has a troubled past. McGee revealed that Feeney experienced a traumatic event at age 13, and describes her as a complex and intimidating character.
She appears sweet and cheerful, but there’s a deeply unsettling darkness hidden beneath that facade – it’s truly frightening. She’s a very intense person, and she’s involved with a small, exclusive group of women who operate outside the bounds of typical social norms.
In the final moments, Robyn accidentally hits Greta with her car on a rural road and thinks she’s died. She quickly returns to the motel with Dara to tell Saoirse and figure out what to do next. Saoirse is busy with Liam, and although hesitant at first, she deliberately punctures one of his tires with a pen to prevent him from following them.
When they return to the crash site, Greta is gone. They soon discover she was hurt and wandered into the hills, where she got a ride from a local man. However, this stranger, Conor MacNeill, starts acting strangely, hinting at trouble and making Greta uneasy. He eventually stops to get a blanket and a pink bag, and they wait for others to appear.
The team is still searching for Greta, who has gone to visit her mother, Nora, at a care home. Nora is furious to see her and ends up attacking Shauna Bray, the midwife, and demanding Greta leave. By the time the team arrives at the care home, Greta has already left.
What happened in Heaven’s Veil?

A central puzzle throughout the series revolved around Heaven’s Veil, Greta’s childhood home. After waking up from sedation, Nora shared with Robyn and Dara that Greta had been connected to a significant fire, and that Greta had scared her ever since they were young.
Robyn confronts Nora, suspecting she’s making up stories about their daughter and isn’t being truthful. The three of them decide to search for a burned-down church, believing Greta might be there. Liam agrees to drive them, but only if they reveal the location of Charles Sampson’s body.
The girls weren’t responsible for Charles’s death. He was a journalist looking into the events at Heaven’s Veil and wanted to share the truth about Greta. However, when Greta discovered he was secretly recording her, a confrontation occurred. Jodie, upset that he wouldn’t return the recording, stabbed him. She then fled, and the other girls, hearing the screams, found Charles’s body.
Greta and her friends promised to help bury Charles, and they did so in the same grave as a priest from their old school, who was also being buried that day. This means Charles now rests on the grounds of their former school. Liam shared the news with his son, Andrew, who was simply relieved that his father finally had a place to rest.
The women eventually locate Greta at Heaven’s Veil after leaving Liam, and she reveals the truth to them. She explains that she was originally named Aisling, and Jodie was once known as Cara.
I remember Greta telling us about the night of the church fire, and it was heartbreaking. Growing up, she and the others were taught that Heaven’s Veil was a truly special place, almost holy, and that God would actually visit there. She felt a desperate need for salvation, so they waited for a sign, for God to appear… but when he didn’t, she confessed they took matters into their own hands and, in a terrible act, burned the church down. It was awful to hear her say that. She and Jodie did it, and they didn’t even notice the children’s bikes parked nearby until it was too late. That secret haunted them both for the rest of their lives, and I can only imagine the weight they carried.
Just when Greta is finally confessing everything to her old friends, Booker and Feeney arrive and unexpectedly find them. Greta fears they pose a threat, but they actually surprise her by giving them an envelope containing new passports and identities – enough for Greta, her husband, and their daughter to start over and live without fear.
Booker suspected the leader of their Evaporation Society was exploiting clients for personal gain. They and a nurse infiltrated the headquarters, used gas to eliminate everyone inside, and effectively dismantled the operation. Booker believes this allows them to rebuild and operate independently, though Feeney points out they’ll need to recruit new members.
What’s in the mystery pink bag?

The women shared tearful goodbyes with Greta, fondly remembering their recent adventure at the shop. Dara noticed and picked up a mysterious pink bag that Greta had been given in the car by a stranger, explaining that Greta had accidentally left it behind.
Right as we were about to check the bag, everything flashed back to the clearing with the truck. That’s when we saw the person who drove Greta had been stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver.
We don’t actually see what’s inside the bag, only the reactions of the three women looking at it – they appear shocked. Robyn immediately states, “We absolutely cannot get involved in this.”
