While *Borderlands 4* will likely introduce a new team of Vault Hunters, some beloved characters are returning – including Claptrap, who’s become the face of the series. He’s still as irritating as ever, but the good news is Gearbox knows some players find him frustrating and has added a way to completely silence him. It’s a bit hidden, so here’s a guide on how to mute Claptrap in *Borderlands 4*.
Muting Claptrap in Borderlands 4

Claptrap’s constant chatter can become annoying fast, but thankfully, *Borderlands 4* now includes an option to completely disable his voice. To turn it off, go to the main settings menu, then select “Audio,” and finally find the “Advanced” settings to toggle the option.

As a huge fan, I’ve been digging into the audio options in *Borderlands 4*, and there’s a ton you can customize! You can really fine-tune everything, from how loud your Hit Marker is to the little bits of chatter characters make when you’re just hanging out. It’s cool, but a lot of the sliders just control the volume – so you can turn things down, but not completely off, it seems.
Finally, the Advanced Audio settings include a handy option labeled “Claptrap?” Setting this to 0% will completely silence him. You can also just lower his volume if you don’t want to completely mute him. Even when muted, you’ll still be able to accept his quests in the game – you just won’t hear what he says unless subtitles are enabled.
It would have been funny if Claptrap had caused the game to glitch and commented on being silenced, fitting with Borderlands’ comedic style. However, this new feature from Gearbox is a welcome change. Now you can avoid Claptrap’s constant chatter without missing any crucial information. Claptrap himself might complain, but thankfully, you won’t have to listen to it!
If you choose to reactivate Claptrap, you can customize his audio however you like. However, most players probably don’t *want* to hear him talk. It’s actually quite amusing to imagine him chattering away when no one is around to listen. Hopefully, Gearbox will include a future DLC for *Borderlands 4* that addresses this option. A quest focusing on Claptrap’s feelings about being silenced would definitely be a funny and fitting addition to the game’s humor.

Regarding downloadable content, details are still limited. Gearbox plans to release two story-driven DLC packs next year. The first, featuring Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, is expected in early 2026, and we’ll get a more in-depth look at it during the Tokyo Game Show in late September. Both DLC packs will not only expand the story but also introduce a brand new playable character – a Vault Hunter.
