The main objective in *Hades 2* is to defeat Chronos and restore the Underworld. However, with its beautiful characters and engaging conversations, romance is also a key part of the game. You can develop relationships with many characters over time, but it can be tricky to figure out who’s interested in becoming more than just friends. Luckily, the complete game includes a guide that shows you how close you are with each character, from simple friendship to a deeper connection.
In *Hades 2*, most characters happily accept gifts and offer something back, making it hard to figure out who you can romance. You’ll mostly discover romantic possibilities as you get closer to each character. Whether Melinoe will end up in a romantic relationship or just a strong friendship, building bonds with the people you meet is worthwhile. It unlocks more of the story, adds depth to the characters, and even includes some intimate scenes in the hot springs. Here’s a guide to help you manage your relationships in *Hades 2*.
How to Unlock the Hades 2 Relationship Guide
Once you fully unlock *Hades 2*, Melinoe gains access to a Book of Shadows – a journal that helps you remember details about your runs, like how often you’ve fought specific enemies. This journal also assists with building relationships. By using the *Empath’s Intuition* incantation, you can see how many hearts you’ve given to each character and what gift they’d like next, helping you progress your friendships – or even something more romantic.

Okay, so getting Empath’s Intuition took a little work, but it’s so worth it! First, you just have to play through the game until it actually *unlocks*. I found it at Melinoe’s cauldron in the Crossroads, but it didn’t show up right away. I think I needed to get about 7 Keepsakes and harvest Myrtle a few times before it popped up. Once it unlocked, I had to gather a bunch of stuff to actually *cast* it, and those materials are…
- 1 F-Fabric
- 3 Myrtle
Okay, so getting F-Fabric can be a bit of a hunt. I usually grab some from the Wretched Broker over in the Crossroads. It also pops up as a reward sometimes – I remember getting some from a woven outfit in Arcane. But the best spot, honestly, is the Fields of Mourning. You’ll need to beat Scylla and the Sirens to unlock that area first. Trust me, it’s worth it! I always use the Reagent Sensing incantation when I’m farming there, because that place is HUGE and it helps me find all the F-Fabric so I don’t miss any.
With these ingredients ready, you can perform the Empath’s Intuition ritual using Melinoe’s incantation. This will reveal useful insights about relationships within Melinoe’s Book of Shadows.
Where to View Relationship Insights in Hades 2
Once you use Empath’s Intuition, you can check how your relationship is developing with any character in the Book of Shadows. But remember, a character needs to receive at least one gift of Nectar before they’ll appear in the book. If someone accepts gifts but isn’t showing up yet, try giving them some Nectar – that should add a page for them. For Guardians, their page will unlock after your first encounter with them.
You can check your relationship insights by opening the Book of Shadows. On Nintendo Switch, use the up button on the directional pad. On PC, press the ‘C’ key. If there’s information about someone, the book will automatically open to their page. For example, if you’re standing near a Selene Boon and open the book, it will take you directly to her entry.

If you’d like to see a complete list of connections between characters, you can search for them directly. The Book of Shadows organizes these connections into several categories:
- The Unseen – mainly characters who make their home in the Crossroads
- The Olympians – most of the primary Greek gods and goddesses who offer boons
- The Rest – other characters you may meet, such as Arachne, Cerberus, etc.
You’ll know a character can become a friend or romantic partner if you see a row of hearts under their profile. These hearts fill up as you give them gifts, showing how close you are. But the most helpful part is the line under the hearts: your Book of Shadows will tell you if a character is ready for another gift, and even suggest what they’d like. If you don’t see this section, it means you can’t build a relationship with that character. Sadly, even though I love her theme song, Scylla isn’t someone you can romance.

At first, you can only give characters Nectar. But as you build your relationships, you’ll unlock other gifts like Bath Salts to invite characters to the Baths with you, or Ambrosia to go to the Tavern together. These gifts are key to deepening friendships and romances in *Hades 2*, and are how you’ll progress those storylines.
It’s not always clear at first whether your interactions will lead to romance or just friendship. By paying attention to conversations and giving gifts, you’ll start to understand each character’s potential path within the Book of Shadows. Either way, unlocking this guide is extremely helpful for improving how you build relationships with the characters in *Hades 2*.
