How To Sneak Through The Streetwise Sage Area In Where Winds Meet

Spending time in the Qinghe region of Where Winds Meet can make it feel comfortable and charming. While you’ll encounter some mischievous characters, it’s generally a peaceful and laid-back place.

Everything feels different when you arrive in the Kaifeng area, particularly in the large city of Kaifeng itself. You’ll find plenty of new things to do, but be warned – the Streetwise Sage Lost Chapter is full of tricksters and con artists!

How To Start Streetwise Sage

When you arrive in Kaifeng City and can explore freely, you’ll find plenty of things to do. The “Streetwise Sage Lost Chapter” quest is immediately available and isn’t too far from the city entrance.

If you go east, in the direction of Reverie Hall, you’ll find Fair Grounds, a large entertainment district. It has a huge, brightly lit dragon-themed station right in the middle.

If you climb to the top of this statue, you’ll discover treasure and also earn an achievement for reaching the highest point in the area.

When you enter this area, a message about the “Streetwise Sage Lost Chapter” will appear, and your character will suggest finding Xue Chou to learn martial arts. Fortunately, Xue Chou is nearby – just a short distance north, leaning against a pillar.

Sneaking Through The Courier Station

Xue Chou, clearly displeased to even speak with you, reluctantly gives you a task with the promise of training. He wants you to steal goods from the Khitan soldiers stationed at Huaixin Outpost – a much harder job than it sounds.

You’re not only searching for hidden items, but you also have to sneak your way through the whole operation. If you’re detected even once, you’ll be kicked out and forced to start the break-in all over again.

To make things more challenging, enemies won’t show up on your Wind Sense like they did in Skill Theft dungeons. That means you should stick to the rooftops whenever possible. When you are on the ground, be sure to stay in areas where enemies can’t see you.

Eavesdropping Location #1

Because you’re unsure where to find the items, you should listen in on conversations nearby. The on-screen markers will guide you to them, but make sure you find a safe spot first.

You can’t run or double jump inside this area, but you can outside of it. To make things easier, run along the east wall before going in, then jump onto a higher building to reach the area.

When you reach the top of this building, you’ll find several other locations with Cloud Step points you can quickly jump to, helping you move easily across the rooftops.

Now, simply head towards the objective marker and listen in on the conversation happening below. This will reveal who you need to listen to next.

Eavesdropping Location #2

The person you need to listen to is nearby, inside a large building. You’ll have to go down to street level to get close. Be careful – there are guards patrolling, so wait until they’ve moved away before you go down.

Go into the garden and hide in the bushes close to the open window. This will allow you to secretly listen to what others are saying while staying hidden from the guards.

The nobles are discussing valuable items stored in the back courtyard. That sounds like the most promising place to investigate next, and it will lead us to the person we need to overhear.

Eavesdropping Location #3

Now that we’re back at the beginning, let’s do what we did to reach the roof before: we need to leave this area to get our jumping ability back, and then climb onto the roof from the outside. Head east and jump over the wall to get out, then follow the wall north until you find a tall building you can jump onto near where you need to go next.

This is the correct building to go inside for what we need, but we need to listen in on a conversation first.

Standing at the roof’s edge, you overhear A’gunu, your final target, complaining about a strong draft in the main hall. You realize this likely means there’s a hole somewhere in the roof above. If you turn around, you’ll discover an opening that leads into the rafters inside.

Stealing The Items

Once you’re inside, there are a few things you can steal, but you need to listen in on each person first. After hearing what they say, you can take the items from above using the Celestial Seize skill.

Make sure you bring the Compass, Embroidered Handkerchief, and Suspicious Letter Box with you. You won’t be noticed as long as you stay on your feet, so don’t worry about getting caught.

Once you’ve collected all three, exit the outpost and meet up with Xue Chou.

Chasing The Thief

Usually, when you leave an area, a thief will appear, quickly steal your belongings, and run away. Then, you’ll need to chase after them, but it’s a fairly simple, guided sequence that mostly involves pressing the correct buttons at the right time.

It is still running everything in real-time though, so do expect some dodgy performance.

Simply keep moving forward to continue, and select any on-screen instructions as they appear. You don’t need to control jumping or turning. Eventually, you’ll reach a point where you’ll be jumping between lanterns on the dragon statue in the Fair Grounds, and at that moment, you’ll need to make those jumps manually.

Once you’ve caught the thief, you’ll find yourselves on the city walls outside Kaifeng. You’ll need to fight them to recover what they stole, but they aren’t very strong. Weakening their energy with a few attacks, then using a single powerful strike should be enough to defeat them.

So, Xue Chou shows up again, and get this – everything that just happened, sneaking around the Khitan outpost and chasing after that supposed thief, was all a test! Apparently, the guy did want those items, but the whole thing was designed to see how I’d handle it. Crazy, right?

In addition to the usual rewards, you’ll also gain access to the Evasive Charge Inner Way. This completes the Streetwise Sage Lost Chapter.
