Paul Thomas Anderson has established himself as one of the most talented writer-directors working today, starting with his impressive debut film, Hard Eight, which he made at just 26 years old in 1996.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s films-like Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, and Phantom Thread-have consistently earned critical acclaim and appear on many year-end “best of” lists. He’s known for collaborating with highly talented actors, including Julianne Moore, Joaquin Phoenix, Daniel Day-Lewis, and the unforgettable Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s newest movie, “One Battle After Another,” features Leonardo DiCaprio, and critics are already giving it rave reviews – just as you’d anticipate from such a talented pairing.
The film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, currently boasting a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics have given it five stars, and our review even called it the best film of the year.
Let me tell you, this film is shaping up to be a serious awards contender. Paul Thomas Anderson is finally the frontrunner to win his first Oscar, and I fully expect to see Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor all in the mix for major accolades as well. It’s going to be a thrilling awards season!
Now that’s covered, you’re probably wondering how to watch the movie – here’s all the information you need.
One Battle After Another release date
The movie will be in theaters on Friday, September 26th, 2025, so you won’t have to wait much longer to find out what it’s all about!
The movie was originally planned to come out on August 8th, the same day as the popular horror film *Weapons*. However, the release date was changed later, and some believe this was done intentionally to improve its chances during awards season.
How to watch One Battle After Another – is it streaming?

The movie won’t be available to stream anytime soon, as it’s premiering exclusively in theaters. And we highly recommend seeing it on the biggest screen you can – it’s truly a cinematic experience!
The movie was filmed using the unusual VistaVision format, which was also used for the recent, well-received film *The Brutalist*. There are only four cinemas worldwide that can project it in this format, and one of them is the Odeon Leicester Square in London. If you can, seeing it there is the ideal viewing experience.
If you can’t see it in the best possible format, 70mm IMAX at London’s BFI IMAX, don’t worry! The film will be playing in most cinemas across the country, so you’ll still have plenty of chances to watch it.
It’s still too soon to know when the movie will be available to stream. Warner Brothers usually considers several things, like how well it’s doing in theaters, before deciding when to release it online.
Considering the release pattern of the studio’s other big hit this year, *Sinners*, we anticipate this film will be available to rent or buy digitally around mid-November – roughly two months after its theatrical release.
The movie will eventually be available on HBO Max in the US, like most Warner Bros. films. However, it’s currently unknown if and when it will be offered on a streaming service in other countries.
We’ll keep this page updated as and when we hear any more concrete information.

One Battle After Another plot – what is it about?

While inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, the film is a significant reimagining of the story, and director Anderson has made it entirely his own. He notably updated the original ’80s setting to the present day.
The movie begins with a long flashback to sixteen years earlier, then centers on Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a worried but somewhat self-satisfied single dad. He’s forced to confront his past and fight for his daughter when an old enemy resurfaces with a kidnapping plot.
Bob, a former revolutionary now living a secluded life, is constantly anxious and spends his days in a haze. He lives off the grid with his independent and resourceful daughter, Willa.
When Willa disappears and his old enemy returns, a reformed activist races to find her, while both she and her father confront the repercussions of their previous actions.
