Hugh Jackman Addresses Wolverine Return For Marvel’s Next Avengers Movies

Marvel Studios revealed the huge cast list for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday earlier this year – a whopping 27 actors! Even with so many heroes already confirmed from across the multiverse, fans expect even more characters to appear. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has hinted at future casting announcements, but so far, no new names have been revealed, sparking lots of online speculation. One actor fans are particularly hoping to see return is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and now Jackman is finally addressing the possibility of reprising the role in the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

Hugh Jackman recently hinted at a possible return as Wolverine in a future Avengers movie during an interview on The Graham Norton Show (as reported by Digital Spy). He said he’s learned not to rule anything out, especially after changing his mind before. After playing the character in ten films, he joked that there’s now enough material to create an AI version of Wolverine!

Hugh Jackman Is Rumored to Have a Big MCU Role Moving Forward

After Hugh Jackman’s popular appearance in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel hasn’t officially announced his future plans. Kevin Feige has only stated that they’ve been talking with Jackman and Ryan Reynolds about a possible return. While Marvel remains tight-lipped, rumors suggest Jackman might continue playing a role in the MCU, potentially even after Avengers: Secret Wars and as part of the upcoming X-Men reboot. Whether extending his role is a good idea is up for debate, but it seems likely fans haven’t seen the last of Jackman as a Marvel character.

I’m really hoping Hugh Jackman shows up in either Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars! Even if we don’t see him in a new X-Men movie, it feels likely given what the Russo brothers are planning. They’re bringing in characters from all over the Marvel cinematic universe – I’ve heard rumors about Deadpool, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, and even Ghost Rider joining the fight against Doctor Doom. It sounds like they’re giving some of our favorite actors a chance to reprise their roles one last time before Secret Wars kind of refreshes the MCU’s timeline. Since they’ve already confirmed other X-Men characters for Doomsday, it would be amazing to see Wolverine join them. Honestly, just imagining Jackman alongside James Marsden and Patrick Stewart one more time gives me chills!

The biggest question surrounding Hugh Jackman, and other actors potentially joining The Avengers, is what part they’d play. Doomsday already has a lot to juggle – bringing together the New Avengers, Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and other heroes, all while introducing Doctor Doom. Even with a very long movie like Avengers: Endgame, screen time is limited, and some characters will inevitably get less focus. It would be disappointing if Jackman ended up with a small role. Bringing him back after Logan was a gamble, but his performance was worth it, as he played a compelling version of Wolverine struggling with guilt.

As a huge cinema fan, I’m really hoping if Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in an Avengers movie, they give him a role that matters. It’d be a shame to bring him back just for a cameo. Marvel’s thinking about how he and Ryan Reynolds could fit into either Doomsday or Secret Wars, and they really need to consider if it’s a good fit. Honestly, if his appearance feels like it’s just to please the fans and doesn’t actually contribute to the story, it’s better to leave him out. It feels strange thinking Wolverine might not be in a big Doctor Doom battle, but sometimes, even iconic characters don’t have a place in a movie, and forcing it wouldn’t be ideal.
