Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are taking the next step in their relationship.
The former stars of The Music Man appeared together on the red carpet for the first time at a screening of Song Sung Blue at the AFI FEST in Hollywood on October 26th.
Hugh, 57, and Sutton, 50, looked stylish on their outing. Hugh wore a black suit, and Sutton complemented him in a chic black dress. The couple, who went public with their relationship in January, shared a sweet and understated display of affection, smiling and posing for photos with their arms around each other.
Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were recently spotted together again, just days after attending the Fetch Pet Gala in New York City on October 20th. For this outing, the couple coordinated their looks, both wearing black, in a rare public appearance.
Hugh and Sutton, friends for many years, revealed in January that they’ve become a couple, following a public display of affection during a dinner in Santa Monica. This new romance follows Sutton’s recent divorce from Ted Griffin, finalized in October 2024, with whom she shares an 8-year-old daughter, Emily.
Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, revealed they were separating in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in June. They share two children: Oscar, 25, and Ava, 20.

Throughout changes in her personal life, Sutton was supported by a close, longtime friend, and she had mentioned enjoying working with him before.
In 2022, Sutton told Vogue that Hugh truly lives up to his reputation as a remarkably hardworking, kind, and generous person. She was also surprised to find they’ve become close friends, as she initially wasn’t sure how well they’d connect when they first started working together.

Before Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster appeared together in The Music Man, Jackman actually went to see Foster perform in Thoroughly Modern Millie – the show that earned her a Tony Award. Foster told Broadway.com in May 2022 that she has a photo to prove they met early in their careers. While they’d run into each other a few times, they hadn’t officially worked together until then. At the time, Jackman was also enjoying Tony Award success for his role in The Boy From Oz.

When Megan Hilty performed as Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, Hugh Jackman attended and went backstage after the show. He took a picture with Hilty and her fellow cast members, John Tartaglia and Christopher Sieber.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster reconnected at the 2014 Tony Awards. Jackman hosted the show and shared a dance with Foster and the other nominees for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. Foster posted a picture of the moment on Instagram the next day, simply captioning it, “This happened.”

Although Keala Settle wasn’t in Hugh Jackman’s 2017 film The Greatest Showman, she did participate in some early workshops for the movie. She told Broadway.com that she met Jackman during these workshops, but it was only for a few days at a time.

In March 2019, Hugh Jackman was cast as Harold Hill in The Music Man. Later that month, he announced that Sutton Foster would be joining him in the production. He shared a photo of them together from the 2014 Tony Awards on social media, writing, “For our next dance … Sutton Foster is #Marian.”

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster began rehearsals for The Music Man in March 2020. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Broadway to shut down, delaying the show’s premiere.

As a lifestyle expert, I was so excited to see the buzz building around the revival of The Music Man! Back in October 2021, Hugh Jackman announced rehearsals had officially begun. Throughout the process, both he and Sutton Foster gave fans little glimpses behind the scenes – Sutton shared videos during their third week of prep, and Hugh posted a clip of them practicing the choreography in December. It was clear how much they were enjoying the journey! Hugh especially took to Instagram to express his gratitude, giving a heartfelt shout-out to Sutton. He said the show wouldn’t be the same without her incredible talent and friendship, and that her energy was truly bringing the entire company to life. He couldn’t wait for everyone to see her as Marian – and honestly, neither could I! It’s wonderful to see such genuine camaraderie and excitement around a project.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster celebrated the opening night of The Music Man in February 2022, posing for photos together at the premiere. The day after, Foster shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, calling Jackman “the BEST” and expressing her honor to work alongside him. Despite initially feeling a bit intimidated about working together, Jackman and Foster ultimately became friends.
She told Vogue in June 2022 that he truly lives up to his reputation as a dedicated, kind, and generous person. He has a way of making everyone feel comfortable and always keeps the focus off himself. Surprisingly, they’ve become close friends – something she doesn’t always expect when starting new working relationships. They even spent Memorial Day together with their families, and she’s enjoying making new friends later in life.
In May 2022, she told Broadway.com that her daughter, Emily (whom she adopted with her former partner, Ted Griffin, in 2017), now considers Jackman family, even calling him “Uncle Hugh.” She said Emily would ask if “Uncle Hugh” was coming to visit, and she’d happily confirm that he was, because he’s become a natural part of their family.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster continued celebrating the success of their show, The Music Man. In May 2022, they both received honors at the Drama League Awards – Jackman for his work in musical theatre and Foster for her performance. Jackman was so thrilled with Foster’s win that he announced it to the audience during a performance. Foster shared a video of the moment on Instagram, calling Jackman a “gem.” The following month, they attended the Tony Awards, where The Music Man was nominated for six awards.

Hugh Jackman’s run in The Music Man ended in January 2023, and later that year, in September, he and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, announced they were separating after 27 years of marriage.
The couple, who met on the set of Corelli, released a statement to People magazine saying they had enjoyed a wonderful marriage for nearly three decades, but were choosing to separate to focus on their personal growth. They emphasized that their children, Oscar and Ava, remain their top priority and that they are approaching this new chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.
Sources reported that Jackman and Furness remained friendly, celebrating his 55th birthday together at the Polo Bar in New York that October, and it was described as a pleasant evening.

In October 2024, Foster filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness separated after nearly three decades of marriage, and shortly after, rumors surfaced about a romance between Jackman and actress Marianne Foster. The pair were seen holding hands in January 2025, following Foster’s final performance in a Los Angeles stage production, and were later photographed kissing and on dates. Foster also showed her support for Jackman during his performance residency in New York.
Furness filed for divorce in May 2025, and it was finalized the following month. She publicly addressed the split, sharing that while the experience was deeply painful, she found strength in her faith and believed the difficult journey would ultimately lead to personal growth.
Furness emphasized that she’s learned valuable lessons through the divorce, including the idea that relationships serve a purpose in our individual journeys, helping us to heal and grow. She believes that even though heartbreak is inevitable, returning to a place of self-awareness and living authentically is ultimately liberating, and that none of it is truly personal.
