Hugh Jackman’s latest film,
Michael Sardina Jr. has publicly criticized the film Song Sung Blue, telling the Daily Mail he’s deeply unhappy with how it depicts his late father and stepmother, Claire Sardina. He feels the film’s portrayal would have greatly bothered his father, and believes he would be very upset by it, possibly even “rolling in his grave.”
In an interview, Sardina Jr. stated that he and his sister, Angelina Sardina, were paid a small amount to consult on the film Song Sung Blue. He felt this payment was very low considering their personal connection to the story and how much work they were expected to do.
The movie portrays Angelina through the music of King Princess, but her son, Mike Jr., claims the film deliberately left out his father’s involvement in her life. She also shared that she didn’t communicate with Hugh Jackman, Kate Hudson, or anyone else on set during filming.
It’s funny, the people the film is about weren’t really involved during the actual filming process. But they did get invited to the premiere in New York City on December 11, 2025, which is pretty cool! Their stepmother and her daughters, Dayna and Rachel Cartwright, were there too. And the movie actually shows the kids Claire had before, so it’s neat to see them represented on screen.
He mentioned briefly meeting Hudson at the film’s premiere. Afterwards, he publicly criticized the movie’s stars, even calling them cruel, for leaving him out of the story. He felt his relationship with his father was important and that excluding him from the film and its promotion was disrespectful to him and his family.
Look, I’ve been following this story closely, and Mike Jr. is making it very clear he feels the recent film didn’t tell the complete truth about his family. He’s not just upset, he’s vowing to set the record straight and is prepared to hold NBCUniversal and everyone involved responsible for what he sees as unfair treatment. It’s a stark contrast to Claire’s perspective, who’s actually praised the film and the actress playing her, Hudson. Apparently, Hudson based her performance on an older documentary about the couple, which adds another layer to this whole complicated situation.
Song Sung Blue is playing in theaters now.
