Gerard Butler is known for his thrilling movies, including hits like Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, Greenland, and Last Seen Alive. These films often become popular on streaming services, attracting larger audiences than expected. Now, with his latest movie about to be released in theaters, one of Butler’s 2023 thrillers is coming to Hulu, and a sequel is already in the works.
The 2023 survival thriller Plane is coming to Hulu on December 12th. The movie proved to be popular with both critics and audiences in theaters, and it recently became a major streaming hit on Netflix, where it was released over the summer and quickly climbed the charts in 2024.
Plane Is a Surprisingly Riveting Action Flick (And a Sequel is In The Works)
The movie Plane features Butler as Brodie Torrance, a former RAF pilot now flying commercial planes for Trailblazer Airlines. He’s piloting Flight 119 from Singapore to Honolulu with a stop in Tokyo when things get complicated. One of the 14 passengers is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), who is being sent to Canada to face murder charges. After a lightning strike during a storm forces an emergency landing, they find themselves stranded in the middle of a war zone.
The movie has a simple, easy-to-follow story about a pilot and the passengers who must survive a sudden crisis. Gerard Butler has suggested this simplicity is a key reason for the film’s popularity, calling it a welcome escape for audiences. Compelling action and a consistently engaging pace keep viewers hooked from beginning to the thrilling and heartfelt ending.
Lionsgate saw a great return on its investment with the film, which earned nearly $75 million at the box office despite only costing $25 million to make. Its success quickly led to plans for a sequel, titled Ship, focusing on the character of Louis. While the 2023 Hollywood strikes caused some delays, the future of Ship remains possible, especially with Plane now streaming on Hulu and potentially gaining a wider audience.
Plane is now streaming on Hulu.
