Hulu is starting 2026 strong with a lot of new shows and movies for families. On January 1st, the streaming service added dozens of titles, including some well-known ones like 28 Weeks Later and Super Troopers. Among the new additions was a surprisingly good series for families, though not everything is positive for fans of the franchise.
Hulu is now streaming some of the Hotel Transylvania movies, but not all of them. The first two films, Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2, were added on January 1st. However, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania aren’t currently available on the platform. The animated series from Sony Pictures Entertainment follows Count Dracula and his monster resort, which is thrown into chaos when a human guest falls for his daughter, Mavis. Adam Sandler voices Dracula, and Selena Gomez voices Mavis.
The Hotel Transylvania Franchise Flips the Script on Classic Monsters
The Hotel Transylvania movies are so enjoyable because they cleverly flip traditional horror stories on their head. Instead of being frightening, classic monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein are presented as funny, relatable characters with real feelings and everyday concerns. The films turn these traditionally scary creatures into lovable heroes, and by changing the usual monster-versus-human storyline, they offer a fun and accessible introduction to horror for kids. Ultimately, these movies are heartwarming stories about friendship, acceptance, and finding family, all delivered with a lot of energy and humor.
Despite getting mixed reviews from critics (the first two films had low scores on Rotten Tomatoes, even though audiences liked them), the Hotel Transylvania movies are generally a lighthearted and enjoyable experience for viewers of all ages. The franchise has also been incredibly successful financially, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide on a production budget of just $245 million, and it continues to grow. In 2024, Netflix greenlit a Hotel Transylvania spinoff series called Motel Transylvania. This new show will follow Dracula and Mavis as they run a motel for humans and monsters in the California desert, and it’s scheduled to debut in 2027.
What’s New on Hulu?
Hulu started January with a large update to its movie library, adding dozens of titles alongside popular films like 28 Weeks Later, A Good Day to Die Hard, Hacksaw Ridge, Idiocracy, Little Manhattan, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Resident Evil, and Super Troopers. Several Predator movies are also now available. More new content is coming throughout the month, including The Luckiest Man in America (January 6th), Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (January 22nd), and Tin Soldier (January 30th). Don’t worry, it’s not just Hotel Transylvania movies on Hulu!
