Hollywood has seen a lot of reboots lately, from films like Denis Villeneuve’s *Blade Runner 2049* to David Gordon Green’s *Halloween* trilogy. While filmmakers often revisit classic movies and franchises with new stories and characters, these revivals aren’t always popular with fans. One reboot from 2010, based on a much-loved ‘80s film, is particularly controversial, but it’s definitely worth checking out now that it’s available on Hulu.
Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of *Ghostbusters*, titled *Ghostbusters: Answer the Call*, is now available on Hulu as of September 26th. This film is the third installment in the *Ghostbusters* series and offers a fresh take on the 1984 classic by featuring a team of ghost hunters led by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Like the original, the story follows a group starting a ghost-catching business in New York City after experiencing a paranormal event. The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth and includes cameos from original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.
Why You Should Watch Ghostbusters
Paul Feig’s *Ghostbusters* film made $229 million globally on a $144 million budget, but it’s also the most controversial entry in the series. Critics generally liked it, giving it a “Certified Fresh” score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes – even higher than the sequel to the original! However, audiences weren’t as impressed, and it received a low 49% audience rating, making it the least favorite among viewers. Despite this, it’s worth checking out now that *Ghostbusters* is streaming on Hulu.
The movie boasts a hilarious cast with fantastic chemistry, bringing a welcome energy to the series and delivering plenty of laughs. While the cameos from the original Ghostbusters stars sometimes feel a bit forced, it’s still great to see Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson back, even in different roles. The special effects are impressive, making the ghosts really come alive. Overall, the movie feels both familiar and fresh, appealing to longtime fans while still offering something new and entertaining.
New Halloween Season Additions on Hulu
While *Ghostbusters* is a classic Halloween watch, Hulu has added a lot of new horror and spooky movies this September. A big wave of titles, including *Evil Dead Rise*, *Jennifer’s Body*, *The Nun II*, and *Trap*, became available on September 1st, giving subscribers plenty of options for the season.
Hulu now offers even more scary movies, including *The Rental*, *Swallow* (from 2019), *Would You Rather?*, and *The Shallows*.
