Hulu has announced the premiere date and released some first-look photos for its new crime drama, which fans of Mare of Easttown are sure to enjoy.
HBO’s Mare of Easttown is a critically acclaimed crime drama starring Kate Winslet – known from films like Titanic and Avatar – as a detective investigating a local murder and missing persons case. The show was a huge success, winning numerous Emmy Awards, including one for Winslet herself, and a second season is currently being developed.
Before its release, Hulu is offering a new crime drama similar to Mare of Easttown. Called Furious, it stars Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, an FBI agent tracking a female serial killer. Hulu has released twelve new photos from the eight-episode series, which will begin streaming on July 27th on both Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. You can view the images below.
Many of the photos depict Rossum playing FBI Agent Black, such as her arriving at a crime scene and finding a body on the stairs.
One photo captures her in civilian clothes, still holding her gun, as she responds to something happening nearby. Other images show Agent Black collaborating and talking with her fellow FBI agents.
Emmy Rossum is known for her roles as Fiona Gallagher in the long-running Showtime series Shameless and as Christine Daaé in the 2004 movie The Phantom of the Opera. Her performance in The Phantom of the Opera earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Throughout his career, Rossum has also worked on films and television shows like Mystic River, The Day After Tomorrow, Poseidon, Beautiful Creatures, Angelyne, and The Crowded Room.
She’s soon going to be the lead in the new Hulu crime series, Furious, alongside Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy.
When FBI agent Rossum starts tracking a mysterious female serial killer, their paths unexpectedly cross. Both women are then forced to grapple with difficult moral questions, making it hard to distinguish between right and wrong.
Elizabeth Meriwether, known for her work on shows like New Girl, Single Parents, The Dropout, and Dying for Sex, is the creator of Furious. She also writes and executive produces the show alongside Rossum, Ronald Bass, Matt Olmstead, Sam Hoffman, and Brian Kirk.
Originally planned as a one-time, seven-episode show, Mare of Easttown might actually get a second season. Kate Winslet hinted that HBO is considering continuing the series, and filming could begin around 2027, thanks to the show’s popularity.
While we wait for the return of Mare of Easttown, Hulu will be releasing Furious this summer. The first three episodes will be available on July 27th, and new episodes will be released each Monday, with the season finale arriving on August 31st.
Furious premieres Monday, July 27 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
