Hulu is making a comeback at the Arconia for another humorous yet gripping murder mystery! The streaming service has announced that its popular Emmy-winning show Only Murders in the Building, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, will be back with Season 5 on Tuesday, September 9th. In this new season, the first three episodes will premiere on the same day, followed by weekly releases of new episodes. Interestingly, the series is set to return to the platform earlier than anticipated, and a fresh lineup of A-list guest stars are expected to join the cast as they delve into the mystery of this season’s murder case.
Martin, Short, and Gomez once again take on their characters living in the legendary Arconia, a fictitious representation of the iconic Belnord building on New York City’s Upper West Side. These peculiar residents, who double as murder solvers, also manage a popular true-crime podcast throughout their investigations. Since its premiere in 2021, “Only Murders in the Building” has been highly praised for its ability to seamlessly mix hilarious comedy with intriguing mysteries, all while showcasing an eclectic cast that has only become more illustrious as the series progresses.
Only Murders Teases a Darker, Seedier Side of New York in Season 5
(Hulu’s official description for the season)
Following the questionable death of their cherished doorman Lester, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel can’t accept it was an accident. Driven by doubt, they embark on a probe that leads them into the murky recesses of New York City and beyond. In this exploration, they unearth a perilous network of secrets intertwining influential billionaires, traditional mobsters, and the enigmatic dwellers of the Arconia. As their journey unfolds, they discover a chasm between the city they thought they comprehended and the evolving New York before them – a place where old crime lords struggle to maintain control as emerging, even more dangerous elements surface.
Michael Cyril Creighton, Richard Kind, and Nathan Lane reprise their characters as assorted quirky residents of the Arconia. Three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, who’s in a relationship with Short in real life, will also make recurring appearances as actress Loretta Durkin. Da’Vine Joy Randolph comes back to portray Detective Donna Williams, a no-nonsense character.
As an avid fan, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building for “Only Murders in the Building” to uphold its stellar reputation for crafting intriguing mysteries that leave us on the edge of our seats until the final moments. It’s thrilling to learn that the show will be delving deeper into its New York roots by incorporating a well-known crime element – the mob! This promises to infuse the series with a gritty authenticity and introduce an exciting new layer of peril to the already captivating crime narrative.
The star-studded cast of Only Murders in the Building for Season 5 helps alleviate any concerns about the show becoming stale, with Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest, and Jermaine Fowler all set to make appearances on the series.
At present, you can stream the initial four seasons of “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu. On September 9th, season 5 will debut, releasing three episodes simultaneously.
