The return of King of the Hill was a major event on Hulu last year, bringing viewers back to Arlen, Texas, and showing what happened with the Hill family and their friends as they got older. Although multiple new seasons have been confirmed, including one expected this year, Hank Hill wasn’t actually the most popular animated character on the streaming service. Surprisingly, another revived cartoon character beat out King of the Hill, despite being very different from the original series on Fox.
Surprisingly, The Amazing World of Gumball was the most-watched animated series on Hulu. This is notable considering the strong performance of King of the Hill’s fourteenth season in 2025, which initially drew over 4.4 million viewers. Despite this impressive start for Hank and his family, it wasn’t enough to beat Gumball. While direct comparisons aren’t available, Gumball’s popularity has clearly secured its renewal for future seasons on Hulu.
The Wonderfully Weird World of Hank Hill

Despite the fourteenth season of King of the Hill not being a massive hit on Hulu, the streaming service is moving forward with several more seasons of the revived show. Following the positive reception to the latest season, Hulu announced it would produce seasons fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen. The fourteenth season brought back many beloved characters years after the original series ended, and future seasons promise even more familiar faces from Arlen, Texas. Currently, the release date for season fifteen is unknown, but it’s expected to arrive sometime this year.
Hulu quickly announced the return of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, and after a strong start with its first two seasons, they’ve ordered two more. That means fans can expect forty new episodes, with the possibility of even more seasons if the show remains popular.
Although King of the Hill and The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball are very different shows – one focuses on everyday suburban life, while the other is delightfully strange – their recent revivals shared a lot. Both brought back the original creators and voice actors to continue their stories. It will be interesting to see which other classic Cartoon Network series get revived, as Hulu is clearly investing in bringing back popular animated shows.
