HUNTDOWN: OVERTIME announced for PC

Coffee Stain Publishing and Easy Trigger Studios are releasing HUNTDOWN: OVERTIME, a prequel to the action game Huntdown. It’s described as a ‘grindhouse roguelite,’ meaning it will have a retro, action-packed style with randomly generated levels. The game will be available on PC through Steam in Early Access starting in the second quarter of 2026.

According to Tommy Gustafsson, art director at Easy Trigger Games, OVERTIME feels quite different from the original Huntdown. They aimed to recreate the fast-paced, action-packed gunfights seen in classic and modern movies like John Wick. They achieved this by including a huge selection of weapons, cybernetic enhancements that change how you play, and a roguelite structure that encourages repeated playthroughs. The goal was to capture the cool, energetic vibe of 80s action films and provide players with a compelling reason to keep playing again and again.

Here is an overview of the game, via Coffee Stain Publishing:

About

Companies have transformed dangerous streets into opportunities for bounty hunters, and John Sawyer is poised to profit. This fast-paced roguelite prequel features a relentless cycle of hunting, fighting, upgrading, and repeating. With each strategic improvement, you’ll sacrifice flesh to build a powerful, cybernetic warrior, piece by chrome piece.

Combat and Runs: Die Hard, Hunt Harder

Experience fast-paced, action-packed gameplay inspired by classic action movies. This roguelite shooter features responsive controls and intense gunfights, challenging you to collect bounties and survive for as long as possible. When you inevitably fall, you’ll be rebuilt and improved by Tony, ready to jump back into the fray.

Each time you run, you venture further into dangerous gang territory—from the bright city streets to the empty wastelands. Decide where to go, focus on your goals, and be ready to change plans quickly. Every time you fall, you learn from your mistakes, and every time you come back, you become more powerful. This is how John Sawyer becomes a cybernetic legend—a story of transformation and growth.

Weapons and Upgrades: Build the Perfect Killer

Bring the fight with a huge selection of guns, close-combat weapons, and essential equipment. Or, if you prefer a different approach, freeze your enemies and finish them off with an electric baton.

Okay, so as I’m playing, I can find these awesome cybernetic upgrades and weapon licenses hidden in enemy areas. The really cool part is I can unlock these permanently between runs, which totally changes how Sawyer fights! We’re talking reinforced limbs, experimental combat mods… there are tons of different combinations, so I can really build Sawyer into the ultimate fighting machine, exactly how I want to play. It’s all about customizing him to fit my style.

Every attempt gives you a chance to start fresh. Save your rewards, use them to make lasting improvements, and then return with new skills. Change up your strategy – you can go in blasting with powerful weapons or use stealth and blades. The city’s criminals won’t see it coming.

Handcrafted Pixel Art Visuals

This game beautifully blends detailed pixel art with modern lighting effects, creating a striking mix of old-school style and current technology. It captures the feel of 1980s B-movies with its vibrant reds, dark blacks, and dramatic contrasts. Forget gentle retro vibes – this is all about the raw energy of the VHS era.

Welcome to the grindhouse. Welcome to Overtime.
