Manga fans are celebrating some exciting news: they might be getting new chapters of their favorite series more quickly now.
Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of YuYu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, recently posted a sketch of Hunter x Hunter‘s main character, Gon Freecss, on X (formerly Twitter). He shared the sketch with a note saying he’d finished the dialogue and coloring for issue number 421. According to the Japanese news site Oricon, the post has fans excited about the progress – especially the colored cover, which suggests another chapter is almost finished – and many are hoping the manga will start being published again around early summer.
Hunter x Hunter’s Yoshihiro Togashi Reveals New Cover Update Ahead of Manga Hiatus End
The manga Hunter x Hunter first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, captivating readers with a world full of dangerous creatures, lost treasures, and mysterious secrets. The story centers around Gon, a boy who grew up believing his parents were dead. When he learns his father, Ging, is actually a famous hunter still alive, Gon embarks on a journey to become a hunter himself and follow in his father’s footsteps.
As of today, Hunter x Hunter includes 410 chapters spread across 38 volumes, and the story is still continuing. However, the series has often been paused because the author, Togashi, has faced health problems. These pauses have also made it challenging to create a full anime adaptation.
I first encountered the world of Hunter x Hunter in 1998 with a short 26-minute anime film created by Studio Pierrot – it was the very first attempt to bring the series to life. Then, in 1999, a full 62-episode anime series followed, running until 2001. The story wasn’t over yet, though! From 2002 to 2004, Nippon Animation released a 30-episode OVA series that continued where the previous anime left off.
The anime series was created by Madhouse and first aired in 2011. This version of Hunter x Hunter is the longest-running adaptation of the series, with a total of 148 episodes, as well as two movies: Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge (2013) and Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission.
Although fans of the franchise are currently waiting for new anime, they do have a major game release to anticipate this year. This game is a key title for Bushiroad’s new gaming label, Bushimo.
A new mobile game based on Hunter x Hunter is currently in development by Bushiroad and WonderPlanet Inc. It’s the first in the series to combine survival and rogue-lite gameplay. The companies plan to release the game worldwide in 2026 as part of the ‘Bushimo’ brand, and development is moving forward as planned.
