One of the most exceptional Shonen manga and anime series ever created is Hunter x Hunter. Unfortunately, the franchise has faced numerous challenges due to creator Yoshihiro Togashi’s health concerns, causing the manga to take frequent breaks over the years, some lasting for years. As a result, even the anime adaptation has been affected significantly. The first anime was released in 1999, over a year after the manga debuted, and concluded in 2001 with 62 episodes. In 2011, NIPPON TV and VAP rebooted the series, adapting more arcs than the initial anime.
Although the anime ended in 2014 due to lack of source material, the manga is currently progressing through its Succession Contest Arc with 71 chapters published. Unfortunately, Hunter x Hunter took another hiatus in 2024, only releasing ten new chapters since then. However, the mangaka has expressed intentions to return and complete an additional 50 chapters, potentially wrapping up the ongoing arc. Fans are optimistic about an anime announcement based on updates from AnimeJapan’s official website by NIPPON TV and VAP; however, it remains uncertain without an official confirmation.
NIPPON TV and VAP Will Share New Announcements at AnimeJapan 2025
On the AnimeJapan’s official site, it’s been announced that NIPPON TV and VAP will both be present at the event in 2025 as exhibitors, having confirmed their joint participation. They plan to showcase several ongoing anime series and reveal some upcoming projects. The tags on the site include “Hunter × Hunter,” “Pokottsu Quest,” “The Fable,” “The Summer Hikaru Died,” and “Tougen Anki.” Given that “HxH” is mentioned, there might be updates about a potential sequel.
As an observer, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming AnimeJapan event in 2025. This annual gathering is one of the world’s largest anime events, boasting a whopping 117 exhibitors! Some of the big names you can expect to see include Aniplex, KADOKAWA, and TOHO Animation.
The public days are set for March 22nd and 23rd at Tokyo Big Sight. But if you’re a professional in the field, mark your calendars for March 24th and 25th too, as a separate event will be held exclusively for industry insiders. It’s during these days that animation studios and producers often unveil major news about their upcoming projects. So, get ready to be part of the action!
In addition, these production studios plan to showcase and sell merchandise with a “HxH” theme, so it’s likely you’ll find such items there. On January 17th, 2025, AnimeJapan’s official YouTube channel will live-stream the “AnimeJapan KICKOFF 2025” event to unveil the schedule and share fresh news about the event.
Excitedly, I ponder over the prospect of Madhouse diving into at least a short season, given there are 71 manga chapters left unadapted and awaiting Togashi’s delivery. The Succession Contest Arc is a gem that showcases political intrigue, enigmatic mysteries, and pulse-pounding battles!
In this arc, we follow Kurapika, who takes on the challenging task of safeguarding the youngest prince, Woble, while also pursuing the remaining Scarlet Eyes. The royal princes of Kakin Kingdom engage in a brutal fight to the death for the chance to ascend the throne – quite the spectacle!
