Hytale Guide – How To Craft Your First Workbench And Upgrade It

In Hytale, the Workbench is your main crafting station. It lets you create better items and tools than the simple ones you make using the basic crafting in your inventory. Like most survival games, you’ll need to progress and gather resources to unlock the Workbench and even more powerful upgrades.

This guide will show you how to quickly build and then improve the basic Workbench in Hytale.

Crude Tools

To build a Workbench, you’ll first need to gather materials using a Crude Hatchet and Crude Pickaxe. Get Plant Fiber and Sticks by collecting grass and bushes, and Stone Rubble from the ground – either from Mossy or regular Stone Rubble. You might also find Piles of Sticks in certain areas. Remember, you’ll need two Plant Fiber, two Sticks, and two Stone Rubble to make each tool.

Craft The Workbench

Gather Tree Logs by chopping down trees with your Crude Hatchet, and collect Stone by mining full Stone blocks using your Crude Pickaxe (don’t use Stone Rubble). You’ll need four Tree Logs and three Stones to craft a Workbench – you can do this directly from the crafting section of your inventory.

Pay close attention when you place your Workbench. If you move it after upgrading, it will lose those upgrades, but you’ll get all the materials back you used to upgrade it.

Keep your Chests within six blocks of your Workbench, and it will automatically use materials stored in them for crafting. This saves you from having to manually move items back and forth in your inventory. You’ll know it’s working when you see a small chest icon appear next to the material being used in the crafting recipe.

Upgrade The Workbench

Once you’ve built everything available at the Workbench’s first level (Tier 1), you’ll need to upgrade it to Tier 2 to keep making progress. Here’s what you’ll need to upgrade:

  • Copper Ingot x30
  • Iron Ingot x20
  • Linen Scraps x20

You’ll need a Furnace to turn Copper Ore into Copper Ingots, and Iron Ore into Iron Ingots – it’s a simple one-to-one trade. Both of these resources should be easy to find when you first start the game. To get Linen Scraps, you’ll need to defeat the skeletal undead enemies, and you’ll need to collect 20 of them for crafting – both for Linen and other recipes. Expect to do a lot of fighting!

That is all there is to know about crafting and upgrading the general Workbench in Hytale.
