Hytale release date: How to get early access explained

Hytale’s development hasn’t been easy, but after starting as a popular Minecraft server, the game is now ready for early access.

Despite a long and challenging development process, including a period where it was cancelled, Hytale has maintained a loyal and eager fanbase.

So, when does Hytale release? What can you expect from the game? Here’s what you need to know.

When is the Hytale early access release date?

Hytale releases into early access on 13th January 2026 on PC.

In June 2025, Riot Games decided to cancel the game and shut down Hypixel Studios, the development team behind it.

However, in November 2025, Hypixel’s creator, Simon Collins-Laflamme, announced he had bought back the rights to Hytale and brought some of the original developers back on board to resume work on the game.

How to get Hytale early access explained

Unlike many early access PC titles, Hytale will not be released on Steam during early access.

Players can buy Hytale in advance through the official website. There are three different versions to choose from, and each one includes special bonuses.

The Standard Edition, available now with early access, lets you reserve your username and comes with multiple armor sets. It costs $23.99 globally, so the price will be converted to your local currency if necessary.

Both the Supporter Edition ($41.99) and the Cursebreaker Edition ($83.99) come with all the benefits of the cheaper options, plus extra armor sets and special capes – the Supporter Cape and the Cursebreaker Cape – to show your support.

Why is Hytale not on Steam?

According to its creator, Collins-Laflamme, Hytale isn’t releasing yet because the game is still very much a work in progress. In a December 2025 post on X (formerly Twitter), they stated that “everything is wrong with the game.”

I really appreciate that the Hytale team, especially Collins-Laflamme, has been super upfront with us. They’ve made it clear that the game is still a work in progress and definitely not complete yet, which is good to know going in.

A notice on the Hytale website lets players know to anticipate some issues and adjustments as the game continues to be developed before its official launch.

The review also points out that the game lacks important accessibility options, like the ability to use a controller.

So, Hytale will likely come to Steam in the future, but not until it’s in a strong enough state.
