Currently, there’s quite a buzz surrounding “The Biggest Loser,” the well-known weight loss TV series that ran on NBC from 2004 to 2016, due to a new Netflix documentary titled “Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser.” This three-part docuseries features conversations with past contestants, trainer Bob Harper, and others about what truly happened behind the scenes. One shocking incident that took place during a fitness challenge left former contestant Tracey Yukich stating she passed away, although this wasn’t even the most astonishing aspect in my view.
In the TV schedule for 2025, the new docuseries premiered on Friday. One of the most shocking revelations emerged from Season 8 contestant Tracey Yukich. During her first day on the show, at age 37, Yukich fainted during a beach run and was helicoptered to the hospital. Later, she shared her account of the incident.
I don’t recall much. I heard a helicopter. It felt like I was drifting. Then my grandfather appeared, and after that, I saw darkness, but then light, so I realized. I knew that day I had died.
This version maintains the original meaning while making it easier to understand for a general audience by using simpler sentence structures and common phrases.
In 2009, during an episode of The Biggest Loser, there were numerous emotional scenes. However, what stood out to me was how frightening it was to watch. It seemed clear that something was seriously amiss. When Tracey Yukich fell 100 yards short of the finish line and couldn’t get up, her fellow contestants carried her across the line to secure a spot on the show. Unfortunately, she soon became unresponsive.

In the documentary, Tracey mentioned that upon arriving at the hospital, she was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis. If her legs didn’t get drained, they would need to make an incision in them. She added…
Rhabdomyolysis represents a serious condition within the body, signaling potential organ failure. Initially affecting my liver, it later impacted my kidneys, and if left unchecked, could progress to affect the heart, potentially leading to life-threatening complications.
It’s astonishingly alarming that she decided to participate in a show aimed at improving her health only to come dangerously close to death on the very first day. Yet, what followed was equally surprising – Tracey Yukich not only continued but also competed on the show!
Contestants from “The Biggest Loser” competition were subjected to extreme conditions, which seemed beyond belief given Tracey’s recent health crisis. Yet, surprisingly, she chose to remain part of it. However, as she explained on the show, there were more compelling factors at play. The contestant disclosed that her marriage was facing troubles, and infidelity was merely a small part of it. She stated: “Infidelity was just one aspect [of the problem].
It seemed like I had caused the issue due to my weight, but I’d appreciate it if we could avoid criticism, shouting, or harm. I also prefer not to have restrictions placed on what I can or cannot do.
She expressed that The Biggest Loser was her last resort, which is truly sad. Indeed, Tracey Yukich participated in the show and managed to lose 56 pounds before getting eliminated in week eight. In the end, she had shed an impressive 118 pounds by the finale.
