I Dream of Jeannie Star Barbara Eden Steps Out in LA for 94th Birthda

Barbara Eden is ready to grant a birthday wish.

On August 23, the actress known for I Dream of Jeannie made a visit to her local hair salon in Los Angeles, which happened to be her 94th birthday. This day held particular significance for the beloved television figure.

Leaving the salon, Barbara sported a cheerful small smile. She donned a long-sleeved red shirt along with a floral maxi skirt in red and white, complementing them with heeled sandals and white sunglasses. Her signature golden hair cascaded freely behind her.

For Barbara, this outing stands out as a rarity in her recent acting career, which has primarily consisted of brief guest appearances. Despite the fact that it’s been over six decades since the premiere of I Dream of Jeannie, she feels incredibly privileged to be recognized most for her portrayal of the iconic character Jeannie from the bottle, who she played alongside Larry Hagman from 1965 to 1970 in the show.

“I enjoyed doing it,” she shared on Club Random Aug. 25. “I felt very lucky that I was doing it.”

However, it’s important to note that the NBC sitcom wasn’t free of controversy, particularly regarding Jeannie’s pink outfit. According to Barbara, the television network strongly discouraged revealing her navel area.

In a recent interview with Remind Magazine (August 25), she shared that she’s frequently noticed in films for her captivating eyes or other physical attributes, but unexpectedly found herself admiring a belly button instead. She added, “It seems unbelievable these days, but at the time, I even laughed it off because it was so absurd.

In her humor, she said, “I wasn’t just wearing swimsuit-like pants; I was fully covered, excluding my arms.

Despite the hardships Barbara has faced throughout her life, such as losing her only son Matthew Ansara to a drug overdose at the age of 36 in 2001, she continually strives to focus on the valuable life lessons she’s gained from these experiences.

As a lifestyle expert, I firmly believe that everyone should embark on their unique journey and discover their personal path. In an interview with People magazine last year, I emphasized the importance of embracing fearlessness in life. Each individual’s story is distinctive, much like the first page of our personal book of experiences.

By learning to identify the commonalities within others, we can understand that, despite our differences, we are all interconnected. In essence, while our beginnings may vary, there is one fundamental truth that unites us all: our inner essence. So, go forth and explore your own path, knowing that you share a special connection with everyone else on this journey called life.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but gush about how grateful the actress is to share her life with her amazing husband Jon Eicholtz, who has been by her side for an astonishing 34 years!

She went on to express her gratitude, saying she’s blessed with cherished friends, an amazing family, a loving husband, and a cute yet mischievous dog. She admitted she was quite content, adding that she believes life finds its own balance, and while she can’t control everything, there’s usually a purpose behind most happenings.

Indeed, with age, Barbara has become increasingly mindful about prioritizing self-care, particularly regarding her eating habits. Although she maintains a balanced approach, Barbara, who affectionately refers to herself as a “sweet tooth,” certainly enjoys the occasional indulgence in desserts.

In an interview with Fox News in 2024, as reported by People, she admitted her fondness for key lime pie. Her sister had treated her to one for her birthday. Additionally, she enjoys angel food cake. She takes pride in homemade angel food cakes, which she tops off with a tangy, yet sweet lemon icing.

To counteract the sweets, Barbara makes sure to stay active in her older age.

She mentioned that she owns a stationary bike and lifts weights that weigh five pounds. She emphasized that while the weights are quite light, they’re beneficial for strengthening bones.

In simpler terms, she expressed that the process of growing older doesn’t make someone more attractive or unattractive; instead, it brings about changes. And those changes are acceptable because life itself revolves around transformation, as she shared with Self.

Anti-aging doesn’t exist – we all age, end of story. Women often seem to take aging personally, as if they’ve somehow failed by not remaining 25. I find this attitude baffling because I believe it’s a blessing to grow older – not everyone has the opportunity to do so.” (spoken to Access Hollywood)

Historically, as women have advanced in various ways, societal norms seem to respond by exerting pressure or oppression upon them. Currently, it seems that we’ve made significant progress, but there’s a strong emphasis on not aging or appearing pregnant. I believe this issue has worsened over time. It’s a cunning strategy to maintain control, making people afraid of their own bodies. However, I choose not to feel ashamed about being human, as she shared with the Los Angeles Times.

In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, she shared that when she reached the age of forty, it felt significant. She found that she had grown to accept herself more, and this self-acceptance brought her great comfort.

She shared with Popsugar that she feels more content with her current body… as this is the physique she’s earned through hard work. She now appreciates and values it more. While physically, her body was perhaps more appealing at ages 22 and 23, she didn’t truly appreciate it then because she was constantly comparing it to others.

She is content with signs of aging like gravity and wrinkles since they are a modest cost for the fresh wisdom she’s gained in her mind and heart. If one day her breasts lose their lift or everything else starts to droop, becoming unattractive and unpleasant, she won’t fret, as she shared with Bustle.

“F–k you. I’m 50. That’s what I’m going to say when I turn 50. Sorry,” as she told Popsugar

In over six decades on Earth, I’ve come to realize that courage has immense worth. For far too long, I let fear control me, feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. Looking back, my greatest regret is allowing fear to dominate my existence, as shared with PopSugar.

Back when I was sixteen, twenty-eight seemed like an age that was far removed from my own, filled with wisdom and experiences I could only dream of. But once I hit twenty-eight, I found myself basking in a newfound sense of fabulousness. As I pondered over the next milestone, forty-two, it felt daunting, but then again, forty-two proved to be a fantastic phase. Each age brings its unique challenges and rewards, and as I progress through them, I’m learning to embrace and appreciate them for what they are.

“I do think about ageing. I have those moments of panic and vanity, but life keeps getting better, so you can’t worry about it too much,” she told Marie Claire UK.

In a conversation with Ok! Magazine, she expressed, “Aging isn’t a factor, it’s about growing wiser and acquiring knowledge. To me, this growth embodies a unique kind of beauty.

“Age holds absolutely no fear for me. There is so much enjoyment ahead,” as she told MarieClaire.

She expressed surprise to Net-a-Porter Magazine about people who might not find women becoming more attractive as they grow older. She believes that age brings confidence, and this self-assurance often translates into beauty.

In a magazine article, she expressed that those who falsify their age are hiding the truth and adding to a widespread issue in society – the desire to be someone other than oneself. However, she emphasized that acknowledging one’s true identity is essential for embracing life fully.

Aging is an inevitable process, but how you approach it is within your power. In the lines etched on my aging visage, I see the story of my life – every crease, every laugh line, every sunspot. There’s a proverb that with age comes a change in appearance that may not truly reflect who we are inside. If you’re someone who seldom smiles, your face will sag; if you’re someone who grins often, you’ll have more smile lines. Your wrinkles serve as a roadmap of the paths you’ve traversed throughout life. My face mirrors the elements – wind, sun, rain, and dust – from all my journeys. Each line is a memory etched on my face. Why should I conceal these memories?” she expressed to Vogue.

She shared with Glamour that, as a woman grows older, she tends to gain more confidence in her sexuality. This confidence isn’t accompanied by intimidation or embarrassment. Instead, it’s the product of age, wisdom, and feeling at ease in one’s own skin regarding both sexuality and femininity.
