I Just Rewatched Tron: Legacy, And Now I Have A Big Question About Ares

I’ve been a fan of *Tron* ever since I was a child, shortly after the first movie was released. I was thrilled when the sequel, *Tron: Legacy*, finally came out after many years. So, I was really disappointed when plans for another sequel were cancelled.

The third *Tron* movie, *Tron: Ares*, is coming out in less than a month! I’m still a little disappointed it doesn’t continue the story directly from *Tron: Legacy*, but I’m excited to finally get a new *Tron* sequel. Now that it’s almost here, though, I’m starting to wonder about something significant regarding *Tron: Ares*.

Tron And Tron: Legacy Look Amazing In 4K

With the upcoming release of *Tron: Ares*, the original *Tron* and its sequel are getting a fresh release in 4K. These updated versions were carefully overseen by the first *Tron*’s director, Steven Lisberger. As a longtime fan, I couldn’t wait to experience them again, so I revisited the digital world of the Grid.

I recently revisited both *Tron* movies, and honestly, they hold up incredibly well. But it was during the opening sequence of *Tron: Legacy* that something really struck me – a plot point that, if the upcoming film connects the dots properly, should be a major focus. It’s something that could really elevate the story if they play it right.

The Tron Franchise Exists In The Tron Universe

The movie *Tron* tells the story of Kevin Flynn, who is unexpectedly transported inside a computer system. Once there, he teams up with programs named Tron and Yori to find a way back to the real world, and ultimately succeeds in escaping.

The movie *Tron: Legacy* opens with a look at Sam Flynn’s childhood bedroom. It’s filled with *Tron* memorabilia, including a poster for the original *Tron* video game that looks just like the movie poster. There are also *Tron* action figures battling with discs and lightcycle toys – all the classic elements fans recognize from the *Tron* franchise.

Kevin Flynn Created Tron Based On His Experience Inside The Computer

Before Kevin Flynn enters the computer in the original *Tron*, we see hints of its world in video games featuring lightcycles and tanks, but these games aren’t branded as *Tron*. In *Legacy*, a flashback explains Flynn’s disappearance and reveals he created the game *Space Paranoids* before the first *Tron* movie. It also mentions a game simply called *Tron*, suggesting he made that one later.

I’ve always loved how Kevin Flynn took everything he went through in the original movie and built it into the game *Tron*. It just makes sense that *Tron* blew up into this huge franchise – toys, and eventually, another movie! I wouldn’t be surprised if there was even a *Tronthemed ride at a theme park somewhere, honestly. It’s such a cool world!

The Tron films feature two connected worlds: a fictional universe within a computer, and the actual digital world itself. By the end of Legacy, the computer inhabitants are aware of the “user” world, but most users remain unaware of the truth about the digital realm-though that’s about to change.

Will The Fact That Tron Is “Real” Be Addressed In Ares?

As a huge fan, I’ve been watching the trailers for *Tron: Ares*, and it looks like this film is going to bring the action much more into our world. It seems like Ares and other digital beings are a secret… for now. But the trailers show lightcycles racing through cities, even taking down police cars, so it’s pretty obvious the world is going to find out about them before the movie ends. I think *Tron: Ares* is going to reveal the truth to everyone!

It won’t take long for someone to point out how much those riders and their bikes resemble something from a video game-specifically, *Tron*. The movie *Legacy* established that *Tron* is one of the most popular video games ever, so people are bound to make the connection.

I’m curious if the show will acknowledge this connection. Will a character mention the light cycles or the people involved? Will it be a quick, subtle nod to fans of the original Legacy, or will they explore it further?

I Still Hope A Direct Sequel To Tron: Legacy Could Happen, And This Could Be A Way In

I predict *Tron: Ares* will likely ignore this small detail, as the film seems to be a fresh start for the series. If it *is* acknowledged, it will probably just be a quick joke or a hidden nod to fans. Still, there’s a chance it could become a bigger plot point, and I believe that would be a good direction for the story.

After vanishing in *Tron: Legacy*, Kevin Flynn was never seen again. The disappearance of a prominent tech CEO like him would naturally remain a lasting mystery. Now, the events unfolding in *Tron: Ares* might finally offer clues about what happened to Flynn and where he ended up.

What if the characters from popular stories like Star Wars, DC Comics, or even Tron were actually real? It would completely change our understanding of the world.

The film *Tron: Legacy* explored the possibility of digital beings entering the human world, and *Tron: Ares* might show that happening on a larger scale. If people can travel *from* the digital world to ours, it’s logical to assume the reverse is also true – that people from our world can journey *into* the digital frontier.

This could lead to many new *Tron* movies or even a series on Disney+, giving them lots of creative possibilities. If viewers realize what happened to Kevin Flynn, it might also provide a good reason to continue the story with Sam Flynn and Quorra.
